you may want to check the tenant act, or contact someone in gov't (you MP maybe despite being in conservative fuck land) there may be a law on the books saying a Landlord can not force you to get rid of a pet. AFAIK there is one in Ontario I don't know about Alberta.

Most landlords depend on your ignorance of the law to get away with it.

ok before posting I did some checking..
check you lease, if the rental agreement dosen't have the pet info spelled out, they can't do anything about your dog and you don't have to get rid of him.

Alberta's Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) outlines prescribed reasons for terminations and pets/smoking are not included. Nevertheless, no pet/no smoking policies can be enforceable if spelled out in a lease and agreed upon in writing by both parties. If a tenant breaches the rental agreement by having a pet or smoking in the rental premises, these breaches would be dealt with under contract law by Alberta courts and may lead to an eviction.

They may not renew your lease, and my look for any other reason to evict you, but it gives you a year to deal with it.
