I remember the first time I hit something in my car. It was a woodchuck. I almost didn't notice. It was such a tiny little thud. But I stopped and checked and there it was. I was very distraught. It upset me a lot for many of the same reasons you mentioned. Unfortunately it is pretty hard for us to do much about mankind's encroachment on natural habitats. All we can do is try to be aware and minimize damage whenever possible. And it sounds to me like you try to do that. That's better than most people do.

Too bad the class I'm teaching is more of a fundamentals type thing. I say that in a good way becuase it covers the basics that the kids need to know to make good art. It's important stuff and I'll try to slip in as much weirdness as I can, but there isn't much room for it. If I was teaching drawing, then I could do a lot more.
