I wish to lodge a complaint.....about a Mr Neil Young.

He was headlining at Glastonbury on Friday, and we watched the footage that evening. Now, all due respect to the guy for some good songs over the years. But by the time he'd finished his overblown set, I was shouting at the telly.

I think there should be some rule that you get kicked out...

Oh, Shit!!! Let's hope that Merlin forgets all about that sort of behavior before he starts getting too much bigger smile What is it with our canine friends? It could be worse. My landlord's weiner dog not only rolls in her shit but eats it as well. yuck.

I've seen a few loser sets from otherwise extremely talented legends in my time as well. I'm not sure which one are worse - the sets that they "phone in" or the ones where they suddenly become "legends in their own mind." Well, here's hoping he comes back with a good one the next time. At least it sounds like you had some other really great music to enjoy!

All the best...

It's hard to comment on Michael Jackson's sudden and tragic death in a measured way. There are two camps, it seems. The devoted fans, for whom everything about him was glorious. And the cynics, who are deeply critical of his lifestyle and behaviour. There is a part of you that wants to say, Well, yes, it's very sad, but he is just one among many...

A man who takes a woman shopping. smile Mmm.

As you know, the press don't really do morally ambigious, it has to be black and white for the purpose of selling more units to the braying mob. Undoubtedly, he led a very bizarre life, and had an amazing career. It's interesting how people feel they own a piece of public figures. x
grayb:
He was quite amazing. It's so sad that he passed away on the eve of what could have been a spectacular comeback, and the chance to enchant a new generation.

He certainly had his problems
but he undeniably possessed an unforgettable genius.

Rest in Peace.

YAAAAWNNNN!!!

I am SOOOOOO tired today! Needless to say, despite EVERYONE in the house wanting a dog, I am the one up at five in the morning with the little guy. On top of my normal morning routine of taking cups of tea up to those still in bed, making breakfasts, and packed lunches, cleaning shoes. Saying over and over again "Are you dressed? Have...

Don't you know that the first rule of the family pet is that it will be the parents who end up looking after it? smile

I love The Brothers Karamazov, I think it's his best book. You seem rather well read. smile

And thanks for your opinions on my girly question. smile x

I hope that all the new that you have to share will continue to be interesting, exciting

WOMEN HAVE NO FEELINGS....

....and other sage advice on inner potential and alcohol, from Dylan Moran. Be forewarned and be forearmed.

.....and you should all do yourselves a big favour, and go and check out kmk's photographs. She takes the most stunning landscapes, and her self-portraits are imaginative, lively and incredibly sexy too. Oh, and she is very very lovely in every way.

THE PUPPY HAS ARRIVED!

Little Merlin came home with us on Sunday afternoon, and is curled up at my feet, grumbling in his sleep at the moment. He had a long day yesterday, with a trip to the vet for his second inoculation and to be chipped, but it didn't seem to bother him at all. He has a healthy appetite, and the most appalling...

Hi Merlin! What an amazing, intriguing and yes, adorable puppy!

The Big Session Festival sounds fantastic! I really appreciate how you so superbly share your experiences and such wonderful facets of your life in your blogs. The vidoes you post are always superb - I'll try to share a bit more of my musical memories and passions in the future. I love the blues, but was not really familiar with Otis Gibbs. Thanks, as always, for the vid - I'll need to check out more.

Your "mirror" observation occurred to me over this weekend as well. It would seem that your weather was a bit better, but the joy we experienced in all that surrounded us was truly synchronous.

kmk:
it looks as though we both had a fabulously delightful weekend. congrads to you and the new family member. life is good when surrounded by family, outstanding ale, music and the comfort of even the slightest adventure. happy day to you! biggrin

Hello everyone!

Before I start, just click on this and let it play in the background......

I'll come back to it at the end.

Well, I talked the talk yesterday. I had an hour long teleconference with a senior manager from the big oil exploration and refining company, and told him how we were going to tackle the problems with the provision of their IT...

Hello to all

Before I start rambling on, I just wanted to say what a great bunch of friends I've made through this site. I was a little hesitant to get involved at first - I thought "I've got no shortage of friends. Is there really any value in adding more?" But I must say, you have all proved there is. The comments I got...

I think the past few weeks have been hard all around. Good to hear that yours are finally coming together for you. I'm hoping mine will do the same.

There was one bit of bad news here last week. The BBC didn't like my oversea IP Address and I was unable to listen to Professor Michael Sandel and the Markets and Morality lecture. A friend gave me a shareware program which he claimed would solve the problem and - well it didn't, to say the least! I wasn't going to say anything, but I then I realized that I at least wanted you to know how much I appreciated your sharing the link, and that I did want to listen to and comment on it.

Work-wise, the last company that I was employed by (which was part of a large corporation) had a very interesting business model towards the end - they took a hugely successful multi-national profit center with 1,200 employess and proceeded to downsize it (mainly for the tax write-offs they were able to take) all the way down to zero. I was one of the last 3 people out the door. Brilliant.

I think I'm in love with the BBC.

For those of you who live outside the UK, we citizens pay 148 a year for a television licence fee. This money goes towards funding the BBC (incidentally, it amuses me that you can still get a black and white licence for 48 per annum - just how many of those get bought?). It funds their television...

dear L,

I was so moved by your kind and thoughtful words, they really gave me comfort, and they were really quite spot on, in many ways. Yes, i think the panic was just that, the future is all in my hands, what a responsibility! but, i have learned, that it's also exciting...

that's a beautiful poem. and i love the idea of a particular writer/philosopher with whom you reach your intellectual limits. i think mine are deleuze and guattari. i could almost feel my brain physically struggling to comprehend.

but i love at least attempting to reach beyond my limits. i remember being so afraid of foucault as an undergrad, because all of the people i'd try to read who used his stuff were so incomprehensible. but he's actually a beautiful writer, and shockingly simple. well, perhaps not simple but you know what i mean.

Nostalgia! I'm going to dig out my old Scaletrix right this second!

You're a lover of classic cars? Me too. My dad had a collection ranging from Jags to Rollers. As well as a few more interesting things (vintage fire engines etc).

Thanks for your comments, they did make me smile. smile x

I did think of showing this video before, as it features one of my favourite songs, sung by the wonderful John Tams (British people will know him from his role in 'Sharpe'). But I was unsure of its combination with stills from the D-Day landings. I thought, in a way, it altered the song's message; a story of trawlermen far from their loved ones, hoping...

it truly is amazing how our conception of everyday life is altered because of forgetfulness. i agree, the duty of every generation is to remind and preserve history..If we don't, what purpose would there BE.

happy weekend to you too...
grayb:
Most timely and topical. I am moved, inspired, and very glad to have made your acquaintance.

Thank you for sharing the song (superb) and the video (very appropriate).
