CAMBRIDGE FOLK FESTIVAL 2009

Well, we returned yesterday from our sixth festival, our spirits only a little dampened by the downpours late on Saturday night. Our first duty was to raise our glasses to our dear friend we said goodbye to last Thursday. Rest In Peace.

Some great music was played, some unexpected gems were discovered, and some headliners.....well, could have been better, frankly.

Talking...

I love music festivals, they are so fun and the people there are always so warm and inviting. My Sister and her husband go to Burningman every year and I'm hoping to go next year with the Misses. God that will be so much fun! I've been listening to a lot of Pink Floyd lately, I saw them live for the Division Bell tour in '94 and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. That was a little off topic, but that's how I work. Haha! Anyhoo, take care!

Harry Patch, the last British survivor of the Western Front, died last weekend. Badly wounded at Passchaendale in 1917, he went on to become a plumber, and served as a firefighter in Bath during the Second World War. For 80 years, he refused to talk about his time on the Front. But, realising that he was a member of a select and dwindling group of...

Thanks for the uplift, when all I was looking for was a little procrastination. Great Clare Shaw poem, now I have to look her up.
I've covered the war--from the home front. And the only way I know how to write about it, really, is from the soldier's viewpoint (or marine's or airman's, and so on)real people on the front, turning policy into body count and bravery, for a friend beside them, for what it's worth that day.
Anyway, nice thoughtful visit. Thanks.

Are we sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.

The wind manifested itself as a spiteful mountain sprite, bent on preventing any further progress along the ridge. Crouching, kneeling and lying became the limited options for retaining her position. Her partner laid what he hoped was a reassuring hand on her shoulder, tapping urgently when the wind dropped enough for movement. They dashed through the breaks,...

IT'S PUP TIME AGAIN

Yes, Merlin has been with us for five weeks now. I am quite used to getting up at 6:30, stumbling downstairs all bleary-eyed, filling a bucket with hot soapy water and clearing the poo and wee. He is getting better too; he has had a couple of clean nights, so we're getting there slowly.

We have had our moments, though. Trying...

Happy belated birthday to your wife.

Are these hostelsa just for young people? As I said earlier, I have no clue as to whether i'll be able to afford to attend my friend's wedding. Perhaps it would make more sense to contact you in the future once I have a better idea what my plans will be. Instead of troubling you, I could probably get information from the bride and groom.

Thank you for your help.
wsoxfan:
I continue to appreciate the information you've given me. Yes, the cost of the flight is a killer for someone like me, who's strapped for cash.

We haven't known each other long enough for you to understand the history and depth of my feelings for Lyrical. To make a long story short, I credit her with making it possible to move forward from a very dark place at a time when I was still in the depths of deapair from the loss of my wife even about a year and a half after her passing.

Even as recently as less than a month ago, despite moving far away and dealing with the vagaries of a new life, I was still able to reach out to her when I didn't feel I could do so to anyone else, and receiving the kind of comfort I desperately needed at the time. I feel that she knows me more completely than anyone else in the world, and knows just the right things to say for any situation.

PUBES ON THE BRAIN

I was looking at my Faves list (as you do), and realised there is a theme developing. A furry theme. It seems that I am a pubes man. Out of my top ten, seven are members of the Tufty Club (this is a British joke - you'll have to look it up...add 'road safety' if you can't find it straight away),...

While i'm not optimistic about making it to England for Lyrical's wedding, I want to get as much information as I can just in case. I heard something abput staying at a hostel. Do you know much about that type of accomodation?

By the way, have you ever checked out Lyrical's sets? She's still a hopeful and hasn't done a set for quite a while. She's in the early stages of planning a new set. I'm curious what you think about her previous sets, and what you think of her looks in general. I think she's the most beautiful woman in the world, but i'm very biased.

Another hopeful who I have NO connection to that I really think is exceptional, is Suzee. What do you think of her? I've been on SG since Februaary, 2008 and I still can't figure out what criteria is needed for a set to go live.

Although I dont care what other women do, and it does not bother me in the least, for MYSELF it has to be bald! I have a weird thing with hair ANYWHERE! My eyebrows, my arms, my legs, my private areas, EVERYWHERE!
Hell I would shave my head if my man would LET me! wink

ENGLAND 1-0 AUSTRALIA

I just had to write a note regarding the Ashes. Yes, I know this will mean nothing to most of you, so I'm not expecting a flood of comments.

However, the Ashes are one of the world's greatest sporting clashes. Two great cricketing nations - England and Australia, the oldest of rivals - head to head over five tests (just how often...

I still think that I'd enjoy it. I'm really into Summer naps too!

Seriously... I'm going to follow this series. I'm looking forward to the 30th! The purity of the sport and the sportsmanship are quite refreshing!

PICTURE DIARY

Well, after yesterday's existential crisis, I will keep today's blog as word free as possible. I hope. You know me, though.

So. I will pack in the garden, a bit of a walk, a sort of visual follow up to my climbing article that left you hanging (groan) at the end, and of course, our puppy Merlin....

So, first of all, the garden...

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me...

I was going to do my usual happy blog - music, hiking, gardening - mainly because I don't see the purpose in dumping personal worries into a public arena. Any shit I find myself in, I have to claw myself out of ultimately.

But.

In the past year, I have seen so...

I tried to get back into the private sector. They told me that by working in government I had: "lost my competitive edge" and "showed a lapse in judgment".

Too true! frown

Hows your little "demolition boy" doing? And when do we get to see more pics?

Absolutely loved your garden pics - BTW....

Okay, now for something a little different.

I mentioned my bad back a few days ago, and also that I injured it in an indoor climbing accident. Well, in 2007, I wrote an article about all the injuries I'd acquired on indoor climbing walls (specifically bouldering, which is unroped climbing above a crash mat, tackling short, powerful problems no more than about 15' high). CLIMB...

Firstly, your injury looks truly disgusting. Congratulations. tongue

An interesting read indeed, not a subject I am too familiar with but on the whole nicely written.

I meant to ask, what does your username mean? x

I arrived too late for the work issues. Whatever the issues are, I sincerely hope that they can be ameleorated.

The vision and reality of your garden are breathtaking. It's wonderful to dream, and even better to make them come true. I've never seen of heard of burnet moths before. Fascinating little creatures - wonderful photo(s)!

It sounds like the back is bettersmile

Good luck and best wishes.

PUPPIES AND GARDENS AGAIN.....

Yes, it's time for little (or not so little) Merlin's latest pics. He is an energetic lad, with lots of bounce, and lots of barking, whining, grumbling, muttering and all sorts of strange noises. He particularly likes clambering in the dishwasher so he can lick the cutlery while you're loading it. But he likes his beauty sleep too, as these pictures...

Well, there was a situation that was not exactly my fault that meant I needed the morning after pill (hey, I do have some class!). I asked around a few pharmacies but they all pretended they didn't know what I was talking about (thank you Catholicism). I turned to my trusty guidebook, which helpfully told me that the pharmacy at the Vatican stocks just about every medicine known to man. Which was not the answer I wanted to hear, but it was preferable to having my insides invaded by a parasite for the next nine months which would then spend the next twenty years ruining my life. I want to live a little before subjecting myself to all that malarkey! smile

Gosh, you probably think I'm an evil person by now. smile x
hedy:
that is the cutest fucking puppy. i love all the photos, but yes it is hard to beat that last one.

eee, i'm sorry about your back! my boy throws his back out about once a year or so, and it's a similar thing - drugs, sleep, then stretching and such. our dog loves it tho, 'cause it means they can stay in bed together for a few days.

hmmm...maybe i can come up with a mix cd that would be good for laying around on muscle relaxers? wink
