I was cooking up a pot of makeua oop - a delicious eggplant dish from Northern Thailand during election night while playing Canada's old national pastime of the lovely circular "soveriegnty/federalism" debate with my Francophone roommates. To me it seems the movement largely comes down to a passion vs. logic debate - most Quebecois I've talked to don't seem to have a lot of good...

I'm a man who loves games.
Held my own last night in an extended game of Texas Hold 'Em - despite extensive downing of German black beer and Du Minot Dore - a Mary Poppins drink. (Mary Poppins being an adjective meaning 'practically perfect in every way')
I've also been educating my roommates in the joys of backgammon on my rococo board and the addictive...

Lovely weekend including beer, snow, shows, girls, bars, dancing, Brazilian breakfast, mind blowing hot chocolate, music equipment purchasing, St Patrick's Day parade, visits from old friends, and giving Hope and Arden a little taste of what Montreal has to offer. I also got an unexpected dosage of London, Ont. drool.

Nah, man, I'm not crazy. I just like kittens in a quietly appreciative manner.

They're a bit loose. The right one is slowly grinding away my ankle.

Hmm.
This weekend I dropped acid and saw the Aleph in a smoked meat sandwich. I was in this Montreal bar called Zoobizarre that looks kind of like a medieval dungeon/wine cellar and as I started peak while watching kaleidoscopic video and listening to drone music my stomach was hit like with a giant mallet of hunger. A quick reconnaissance mission to "le Roi du...

Um... I remember asking you "Is that a play on those 'Kiss Me I'm Irish' shirts?" and you were like "Oh... maybe," which implied that you had either never seen such shirts or hadn't thought of it before. Especially because I said "Yeah, you should wear it on St. Patrick's Day," and you were like "Perhaps I shall." If *I* were you in that situation, I would've been like "Obviously! I MADE this shirt, lady!" Hence my call of bullshit.
Alternately, I suppose you could've just been really drunk/high, so as to be completely off your usual snarky-ass game...
If you want, I can allude to your shirt in the title.

Normally you wouldn't be treated to a half-drunk Lemonkid wrapped in a haze of warm and blankets but tonight you get something special. Fatigue is pummeling me like a man running through the jungle being pummeled by coconuts by monkeys - but I will brave it by that old Zen mantra of dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge.

Once back in the West Coast I was masturbating, and an earthquake happened.
And for a split second there I was like whoa, I'm good.

A Valentine's Day Story
So this Valentine's Day, but maybe not exactly, but definitely somewhere in its environs I was talking to this girl.. about what else? Love.
Now when I was a teeenager I'd listen to Chet Baker, get all moody, and think.. that man with the horn knows- he knows how easily I fall in love. That old addict with the knocked out...

love is the ultimate nave joy. one of the few that you're actually encouraged to delight in as you grow up. so many others you're taught to quell. well, fuck that, because to love someone fully you have to find that nave joy in everything. it's not directional. you need to put more than a few sticks in a big stove to make a decent fire. that initial rush of romantic love is the kindling, but if you build it right, once it gets started, fire doesn't care what it burns. fire from a wad crumpled of newspaper is the same as the fire in a vast wildfire.
you know, i've come to dislike the word "passion" It's such a serious word for such a simple, innocent thing. it's root even means suffering. ridiculous. i'll take joy over passion anyday.
i sent out your mix cds the other day. the whole moving-across-the-country thing kind of got in the way of sending it out sooner.

Going through all my old books is like revisiting old lovers- except more pleasant. I've gotten grounded in a weird way by going through my old possessions - like doing a new exercise and remembering muscles you'd forgotten even existed. It has given me a few ideas.
Tomorrow is Valentine's day and my imminent arrival in Toronto.

Forgive me for being so damn casual, but this is shaping up to be one hell of a year. I'll settle for nothing less than unrepentant excellence.
And that's what I'll have.
