The more I learn about myself the more confused I become. The more confused I become the more I learn about myself.

The more sure footed I feel the more I want to walk on thiner ice.

The more comfortable I am with my situation the more I want to test my boundaries.

But I must be respectful of all of the relationships I have...

Have you tried Strathisla? You'd probably like it.

Have you been to Whisky Galore in CHCH? You'd love it, and the guy who owns it really knows his stuff.

Oh hai guys. Just got back from a day tramp in the Hunua ranges near Auckland with Sarraz. I was expecting a 30 min walk, instead it was a 3 hr slog through muddy bush. Going to have a real chill night in tonight...

Well after two and a half days tracking in Neil Finn's lovely Roundhead Studios we've finished the drums for the forthcoming Subtract album. For those of the nerdy engineering pursuasion (I'm looking at you English_Dave) I'll elaborate a little on the kit we used:

Console was a Euphonix CS2000 with 8 Channels of dynamics processing (great compressors for heavy metal drums). Beta 52 and...

Nerdy Engineering response coming up........

Studio looked amazing, and a great website too. I have to say I am not a huge fan of the Euphonix, its characterless for me, and it is so layered with menu's, it drives me mad. Cant say I have used the Dynamics, so will have to take your advice on those.

I love your mic choice. I have to try some of your techniques, like the mic under the ride, thats and interesting idea. I am normally too scared to put anything other than an SM57 on the snare top and bottom, how do the 421's compare?

As for the track count, I am all for throwing everything up and seeing what sticks, especially if you have a great room, and it looked like you had. I take it you recorded to digital too? So you had plenty of tracks?

How was the drummer?

I'm seriously fucking horny and about to do awful (and illegal in some places) things to and with my wife. I'm sure she's gonna do some awful stuff to me too... Gonna setup a wee fuck station in the studio and take our sweet (literally) 'fucking' time... smile

Oh my God, Cowboy Man. The perfect combination of deaf and insane. I've held a grudge against him for years for terrible fold back and the incredibly bad things he does to my voice. I don't understand how anyone could be so bad at what they do, and also such an ass.

Who is he? How much does he charge?

Fuck it's cold, and this house is even colder. Right now I'd love to be making cups of tea and coffee for scumbag wannabe rockstars in LA if it means I can be warm while I work. Looking fwd to this weekend as we start tracking drums for the Subtract record at Roundhead.

Here's an updated version of one of the songs demos: Joelshuggah

I hadn't thought of that. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm guessing because I used to use it. I'll try emailing staff, although I'm not sure who to send it to.

What am I doing? Still working on drums. Almost finished though, then it'll be guitar and bass tracking time.

And here's a pre edit of the intro of the album:

P.S. No artificial reverb added... smile

Yeah, its dope, and super quick. Cubase 5 rocks, the programmer on the last album I worked on uses it...its got some wicked features.
And yes I agree with you, I am a Pro tools man, and probably don't deal with cross platform as much as others.

Intro sounds good, cant wait for the album now....!

It's Friday night and my main studio computer is broken, yay for technology. I've been watching it copy my system drive to an archive drive for about 4 hours with an estimated 8 hours to go. Been really busy the past 3 months or so, moved into a new house, moved the studio into the same house, began recording both the Subtract and Cobra Khan...
