Probably oppressed. Depression means you're not happy, and in my mind the most important thing in life is that you're happy. Being repressed means you're not living your life to your full potential. Being oppressed means that other people try to bring you down, but it doesn't necessarily mean you let them. I think people who've had to fight for their liberties are less likely to take them for granted. My two cents.
