this is the symbol from Balzac's The Wild Ass's Skin circa 1831. evidently the original version of the publication had a modified symbol but later the original from Tristram Shandy was used. i have always seen the later version and that's the one i fell in love with. i have also always liked chapter I's name of "The Talisman" very intriguing
