What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

A Dream Deferred

Thank you. I am happy to hear that my posting contributes to the boards. I generally try to only post when I have something to really add to the discussion.

Another day passed without being able to write.
For whatever reason, this silly contrived celebration of the day I was born is making me reflective and moody.
It should help with certain goals, and make other things really difficult to achieve. Time slips away, as usual.
In case you missed it:

I have celebrated by changing my profile pic. Yes, my car is pretty...

Ahh a relaxing Monday off before the new job begins. Tommorrow. Hmmm, I'm thinking that having every Friday off is gonna be so good for me. A day to just recharge.

Hey there! Taking a break from the show tonight. Just not up to it. Thought I'd let you know since you are one of my number one fans! wink See you next week? smile

So, for the first time ever. I am leaving a job on good terms. In fact I'll still be working for them as a contractor. This is just crazy. The emotional turbulence of having the team feel awful, but overjoyed about the new chance I have.
I have always left a position because I disliked something about the work environment, never because I had a...

When social agents go wrong

Recently an event on the boards reminded me again that Internet communities can have far reaching repercussions. Just like any form of media, long term studies don't exist that clearly examine all the "craziness" that could potentially occur.
When I was 17 I took my first college psychology course, and part of the class required a very large paper, that...

I agree- its very difficult to know how what you say on the internet effects people, or even how to read into what is said to you.
Call me old fashioned, but I like a little face-to-face conversation- its amazing how much more you 'hear' when you also see.
An example of misunderstanding which comes up all the time is sarcasm. I was kind of hoping there would be a 'sarcasm font' added to the new site design as often its the fact that people read sarcasm as seriousness which starts arguments.

This reminds me of a mental health/suicide support group I used to administrate.
There were actually people who would log on just to tell others 'go on then, kill yourself'.
I imagine to them this was fun as they did not regard these people as anything more than pseudenoms on a screen, but of course to the suicidals these comments affirmed what was already in their heads.
I suppose how seriously somebody takes the internet depends on how seriously people take other's opinions.
It often amuses me somewhat that a lot of people on this site aspire to a 'fuck you I don't care what you think' attitude, then you disagree with them on something and they react.
I suppose its true that you can pretend to be however you want to be on the net, until you feel somebody is pushing the wrong buttons!
Personally, I think anything other than constructive debate is just silly on a website, but I suppose others are more defensive or sensitive to these things.
So I agree- best to lean on the side of caution. skull

Damn. Fascinating, and sobering.

So, it was one of those days I would rather put behind me, but because I didn't get all the work done that I needed to, it is still ahead of me. AHHHHHHHH!

I've noticed that this time of year college students are getting swamped with papers to write, and tests to take and all that fun stuff that I miss. The days of learning...

Fuck "fate", it's a myth. You create your own reality, but it's a reality weighed down by your experience and framed especially by the society you live in.

I have never been to Windsor CA, and I don't even really know where it is, but at least you enjoy the view. smile

A thread asked about mix drinks. I like these recipes..

For everything I am bringing up, you need a cocktail shaker, ice, and chilled martini glasses. As you get more adventurous, you'll notice that cranberry juice, orange juice, lime juice, grenadine and cream are used in many, many drinks (not together, but you get the idea, always good to have these around). Also having limes...

Anyway, regardless, when her show came on I enjoyed it a great deal. Thank you Saraphine..

It is Friday at last. Unfortunately, it isn't really Friday, because I have to work all weekend to catch up.
However, it really is Friday because I am going to drink tonight.
It is quasi-friday.

Well, never mind. I did get to sleep, from 7.30 am to 11am. I might nod off for another hour or two in a little while here. Or perhaps I'll just read something. 3.5 hours is very little to go on. Some would say too little.
Currently I'm caught up in more RA Salvatore. The Thousand Orcs fell to me yesterday (well, yes I was...

Holy shit, I haven't slept and it is Thursday and I woke on Wednesday. With the irritating work I'm doing sleeping is currently not an option. I am gonna start looking like myself in halloween makeup if I keep this up.
