It's the 22nd and Blanco also happens to be debuting for the Fire that evening as well.

Should be a decent night out I hope. I was at the Cracovia game in Section 8, and I was impressed by the stadium and the atmosphere.

Celtic should be even better. They are giving us our own away sections. biggrin
strongbhoy:
Yeah, I'm pumped. Celtic fans got $5 off admission...and our own sections so we can be as loud as we want? Respect for the Fire doing this, so we don't have to put up with soccer moms in the section who would be offended by some colorful language.

I have seen pictures of the scarf, I plan on getting a few. I know you could get them online, but perhaps they will be selling some there and I can grab some. If you end up not making it, and want one let me know.

One of the Fire/Celtic fans died last year, and I know that scarf is in memory of him. They are trying to get a YNWA for him before the game starts, and I hope it happens.

This U20 tournament has been superb, much, much better than I ever thought it was going to be (USA performance or not). I have yet to see Austria, so I can't really rate them..although I would think Uruguay was a bigger test.

We will see what happens, I just hope some of these guys get European contracts to further their development, I'm not sold that an MLS-only upbringing is beneficial.

On another note, do you know what hotels are close to Toyota Park? and, I know you are a boxing fan...any chance you know where a bar would be showing the Wright/Hopkins fight?

A bunch of the guys I am going with to the game are avid fans as well, and I didn't know if there was like a "boxing" bar of Chicago.

josearcadio:
Hey!! Let me know as soon as your book can be bought so I can get mine!!!!
A few things:
1. I envy that you are able to watch both the Gold Cup and the Copa America!! Can you believe that we are not getting any of those tournaments here in Puerto Rico!!! Only the Copa America will be shown, and only if you have a certain cable service, which is available away from the metropolitan area of the Island...anyway, I envy you!!!! smile
2. From what I have read the quality of the futbol in the Gold Cup has been poor, even from the top teams, Mexico and USA, which is sad, I hope they improve their act in Venezuela, for the sake of the entertainment value and because I really want for el Tri to do good, the USA team not so much biggrin
3. Did you watch the Libertadores finals??? They were fun, beautiful!!! I hoped for Gremio to try and score some goals in the last game though, but it seemed as thought they were more into defending and awaiting for Boca to committ some mistake and counterattack. But I loved the beauty of the second half of that last game, and I loved the first game so much!!!
4. On a different subject: I know some fans care more about certain clubs than their national team, but me and a friend wonder if this ocurrence is widespread in countries like Spain and England, unlike in countries like Argentina, Mexico and Brazil, what do you think??
That was all, have a great weekend and tournaments, both in the USA and in Venezuela, I wish tons of health and joy, both to you and your wife smile
josearcadio:
I just found that Henry was signed by Barca, so I wonder what will the Gunners do to replace him...what do you think?

Almost through. Gold Cup quarters ahead; then Canada, then (and at the same time) Venezuela. Then book tour. Look for me this month in: Four Four Two, Esquire, NYT, Lumpen, and something else. I forget. But I wrote it.

So, it's been three days since I got back. Since then:
-- I discovered a feral cat had clawed into my basemant, and died there
-- I went to day to open my basement window and part of it broke off in my hand.,.. because of termites
-- And I don't even want to get into what's going on with the brickwork in my basement....

Nice. smile

Food for thought: T & I are seeing Arcade Fire at the Chicago Theater Friday the 18th, but overall it's our first weekend in Chicago where we're ACTUALLY AROUND the entire weekend while not entertaining out-of-town company in like a KAJILLION years.
So maybe Saturday the 19th?
shocked
The next weekend is the SGChicago thing at Piece (a Maybe for us) and we're going to Milwaukee for the rest of the time.
trocc:
yeah, they do have that whole niche thing going for them, don't they? wink

I'm not sure if you were or not, I guess not being a fan makes your opinions more valid because you can remove yourself from the situation and look at the pros and cons of the system, how it is now and you know the US system, which imo many other journalists overseas don't really. From your articles I've read, I think our opinions fall over similar lines.

In terms of the US, I'm just pleased they finally are doing the Copa and ending the 10 year absence, and scheduling a friendly IN Sweden is a start to get on the right path.

Yeah, I figured you might have watched United when you were a kid just getting into football, because let's be frank...there aren't too many Dundee United fans that aren't from that area. One of the big things that cemented me with Celtic, other than its illustrious history and how I can identify with that was the access to games every week, something that United never had, and something I believe no major sports team had until they followed that model in the last few years. MLB started broadcasting games over the net, hell even the MLS started this year! I've got every Celtic game now for over five years and its wonderful.

I'd like to see a 16 team top division with relegation and promotion, and what would you think about a playoff somewhat like the championship? Either with the bottom teams of the SPL and top few teams of SPL2 or exactly what the championship has (although I would not promote/relegate 3 in this league, 2 would probably be fine).

If you are in favor of the Dundees merging, how would you feel about the Old Firm heading south? or do you draw the line there?

I've got friends, Celtic fans and not, that are both on different sides there. Some love the idea of the OF leaving so other teams get more of a shot at doing something, some never want to leave Scotland.

I feel a super league type thing is not all too far off in the future, and if it happens I think Celtic need to make the jump to be where the fans want them to be. Obviously, I'm not a Scot, so I don't have the ties thinking they have to stay in Scotland, so I figure that could be a key fact that sways my opinion either way.
strongbhoy:
Celtic and Rangers, but no Dundee. Love it. haha

At this point, I think the Superleague is more likely, as the Sky deal has already been brokered for the EPL, and the door was open even more so a few years ago. There would be ways to rig it so it "could" work, but it'll never happen at this point, even if the money it would bring in would make the league more valuable.
