As much as I love New Orleans, the city has a negative effect on many of it's inhabitants. Visitors soak up its vibrancy, its charm, and its lust for food/drink. But living in New Orleans can suck the life from you. New Orleans is the anus of a state that is the entire ass. Crime is rampant, politicians are corrupt, and health hazards are plentiful. Working graveyard at a locals bar certainly does not help. The thing that bugs me the most is the fact that lifetime residents are complacent to is shortcomings. Many have come to accept NO as it is, and believe that it cannot (or should not) be changed. I am not suggesting that the city should be completely turned around, but it could be cleaned once in awhile. Even Marilyn Manson stated, "People go to Florida to die when they are 65, people go to New Orleans to die at 20". Take Shannon Hoon for example. A great musician who was already volatile, after recording in New Orleans he came back only to overdose in front of the house of blues.
This town can suck you in, be careful and make the best of it while you are here. Personally, I can't wait to leave this shithole of a state.
