Okay so apparently people were either uninterested in my last post or fell asleep half way through and never got to posting how much they really loved and were interested in it. Things like this make me understand why I'm still playing DnD on friday nights with a group of guys that are either uninterested or at least not interested enough to make the effort...

Those in my gaming group are required to not smell like BO or I send them home. House Rules I put into place after learning the hard way.

As far as the other stuff, I fell that science is in no way turn off. Science is proven!

Also you look beautiful, I wouldn't worry about that stuff.smile

SO ...finishing up my biological investigation class. Together with two guys and help from the TA (mostly with stats issues) I completed my very first independent biological experiment biggrin

Tested color preference in L. Lymneae Stagnalis (medium large pond snails that are a host for the parasite the causes "swimmers itch") We thought that they would prefer green because their food source is green. Turns out...

Out of curiosity, did you consider the differences in color vision between the snails and people? It's important to consider both what the actual (spectroscopic) color you were presenting was (as opposed to the color we see with our tri-colored cones), and also what the color-response the target animal sees with their, presumably, different color receptors. If I remember right, most invertebrates (excepting cephalopods) are either one- or two-color viewers, and the absorption ranges are not the same as any of the human ones.

It may be that rather than being color-specific, you were finding that the snails were just luminance phototaxic - preferring whatever is brightest to them, given their specific frequency/wavelength response.

Just a thought because, hey, I'm a nerd, too. ;-)

That's a really good point. We didn't find much in the literature about gastropod vision (because everything we cited had to be a primary source) so we didn't think to try and figure that out. We did test the lux levels under the plastic and then averaged them for each color. I have the lux on the bar graph which didn't show up when I pasted it into this blog for some reason. thanks for the idea!kiss

so yeah ....going on an intensive 7 day hike/camp trip with 2 geology and one biology professor to Mt. Rainier and Mt. Saint Helens. It's an upper division class so we are expected to write a scientific review paper and answer in depth biology/geology questions, before we even leave. Then we keep a field note book including sketches and scales, and keep a trip journal....

of course it doesn't help that I stop to video chat with my friend then spend 2 hours watching porn lol.....

Even if the theory of the standard model isn't correct it's just as exciting; being proven wrong in science is sometimes more satisfying. Sure you've just spent the last 30 years working out a theory that's not correct but now you've got the chance to start all over again and the new solutions you'll find have the potential of being so damn beautiful.
kpavino:
Hey Higgs (aka the "god particle"), they say it may take 4 years to prove they found you... but we knew you were here all along. But even if you didn't end up as the fallout in the bottom of that atomic collider, you are still a theory.... and that is more than most!

Guess you can tell the class in which I was the most motivated. Not too shabby for a math class.

Starting biological investigation and Art and Ideas tomorrow.

I'm going to be incommunicado for about a week. Going camping and canoeing in Canada for 5 days then possibly going to the PRIDE parade in Seattle. tongue

I'll be sure to post many pictures when I get back.

while I'm gone:
1) keep it classy
2) wrap it before you tap it
3) stay away from snails and kissing bugs
