Hey, making progress. I should be able to send your stuff back to you by the end of the week. We need to do another batch! I saw all kinds of cool stuff in your pics.

"Your Killing Spree Is Not Okay" is awesome. Can't believe I missed it!

My gf is back from Mexico and I showed her the drawings and the test print I made. She really liked the numbers drawings and the owlguins+stars. Also we both really like the way that the prints look. I think you'll be impressed.

Hopefully we can do some more of these in the not too distant future. smile
jayenh:
Do you think you could draw a one-frame cartoon (more or less) with the stars / owlguins / whoever in it? With no caption, or just a word or two? Maybe think of it as an "assignment," not as advice about your art. I couldn't tell you what sort of subject, but one of the things I really like about your work is that it's playful, funny, ironic, abstract, random, sometimes about wanting, but it's not heavy or dark or down. It's fun to look at, thought provoking.

(My gf, who is a photographer, has got me started saying "your work" instead of "your art.")

You might practice inking. If I had any way of getting to a spare set of Rapidographs/brushes/nibs I'd send them to you but they're in storage a couple of states away. Also you could try ink wash. You can erase the pencil or leave it in.

I used to do a little drawing. I'd still enjoy doing it but haven't in ages. Maybe I'll hit the art store on my birthday.

I'm still impressed how long I can look at "Consumerism" without getting bored. There's so much in it!

This may work out really well. I photographed "rabid consumerism" with my Oly point and shoot, then printed it on some cotton paper (a "watercolor" type) with the Epson 2200, and it looks great. So when I get my camera back (hopefully just a few days) I expect good results. Stay tuned!

I like the way that the creases in the paper in the "happy" poster show up in the photograph. I have a photo of a mural on the side of a shipping container that has the same kind of "what am I looking at exactly?" effect. It's flat but then again it's three-dimensional.

alyk turned me onto my profile picture art.

I'm in the process of retrieving the name for you, because my stupid ass forgot. I had it in my old profile, alas after the revamp I deleted everything.

how were the holidays, my little pickle?

I love it when I don't remember making things.
mat8drb:
Ah, that makes sense about the money now. You needed it for ink.

You have made Paris Hilton look good. Hence, you are a genius!

i'm not going to be drawing any SGs for a while. I have no money for ink to print them out. i don't know who cares, but I care (a lot), and it's my blog so whatever.
jayenh:
Well let's work on that. Do you have these still:

http://suicidegirls.com/members/HelloCentral/1251707/
http://suicidegirls.com/members/HelloCentral/1213296/ (the color one near the bottom)
http://suicidegirls.com/members/HelloCentral/1290342/
http://suicidegirls.com/members/HelloCentral/1287977/ (the "door")
http://suicidegirls.com/members/HelloCentral/1285441/

Do you think it would be appropriate to color the last one?

Are they on pads or on separate sheets?

I like the "owls" and the round "faces."

I love the one on the cardboard box. What size is it ... I wonder how I could get it framed. Maybe I should photograph it.

Let me know what you have and mail me either a mailing address or Paypal address or something like that. I'm sure can get enough money out of me for a few supplies at least.

Also what I might do is photograph them and print them on nice paper or canvas with my 2200 and frame that. (Depending, I might return the originals to you.) That might be a good treatment for the ones with the numbers (http://suicidegirls.com/members/HelloCentral/1512508/), which I really really like. I'd just prefer not to have them on notepad paper so a print would be better.

Merry Xmas, -j

It's this one: http://suicidegirls.com/members/HelloCentral/1176689/

Also I like "Louis Vuitton." My gf's best friend is a conceptual artist ... I wonder what she would think of those two.

It sounds like you are doing science of some kind or another in school (I can't complain; that's what I did) but you might give art school, at some point, some serious thought. I think your work is really creative and has a great sense of (somtimes dark) humor and (sometimes twisted) innocence. It's a long long road to success in art but you might enjoy the journey at least. My gf and some of her friends have MFAs, which are enough to get them (part or full-time) teaching positions and some cred with the working artist crowd here.

Anyway, how about $20 each for the sketches in question, and I'll return them with a digital copy of some kind. I don't have my good camera with me at the moment so I can't do it immediately, but let me know what you can send, and I'll shoot some $$ at you. Offhand it would probably be mid-January before I can get them photographed and sent back. I might try my gf's scanner but she's out of town until the 6th so I may or may not have success with that.

As far as coloring them goes, I wouldn't suggest coloring anything other than something you look at and think "I meant to color that one." Maybe you could get some prints and color one of those (or color them different ways). Depending, I could probably send you a print or two of each original along with the digital copy (for free). I just want to encourage you to keep on drawing.

Are the ominous round heads and weird owls/penguins just an idea that came and went or did you think of drawing more of them? As a gimmick they might run out of steam but who knows, they might illustrate a book or become a spacey comic, or something ....

You can start by picking out 3-4 and letting me know which ones they are ... I'll send you my snail mail address by SG mail.
