I had a pretty busy Saturday. Worked on Cannes stuff in the morning and then went to the Brewery Art walk, downtown LA. Even though I'm not an art specialist, I love modern art and the Brewery artists always have some interesting pieces. I especially like the event itself, which caters to a cool crowd and not the usual art snobs that populate most exhibits....

Got a pretty shitty week at work and am glad it's the weekend. I've also started working on publishing our Cannes film festival coverage and Gus Van Sant's Last Days, a film inspired by the last days of Kurt Cobain, sounds very good. We also were able to catch Van Sant for an interview, which is cool.

On Friday night, my friends made me...

You are right, I am lucky that I travel for work. It allows me to see a lot of great places for free. It also allows me to rack up miles so I can go other places (such as my Puerto Vallarta trip) for virtually free. I typically don't complain about it, but Friday was pretty bad.

Hmm, I wonder the same about FischerSpooner. I really enjoyed the performance aspect of the show last time, it was a refereshing break from just watching a bunch of musicians onstage.

I adore The Orb. I actually have an old styrofoam poster from a music store for Pomme Fritz hanging in my living room. I saw them many times when I lived in DC. I must say, though, it sounds like the show you saw would've been amazing. I think I'm jealous wink

Now you're going to totally laugh at me, I've yet to go to Amoeba. I keep meaning to go, but when I get up to LA I'm always with people that have no interest in it. Everyone tells me it would be my home away from home if I went. I may just have to make a special trip up.

Be sure to let me know how Audioslave is. I saw one of the first performances in the LA area after they got together and I was blown away. I'm wondering if they're still as good. I'm also curious to hear about the movie you mentioned in your journal, Last Days. I'm an underground Nirvana fan (I typically deny it)

Ah, looks like I won't get anything from Cannes untill tomorrow, which leaves me some time off tonight. Today was pretty shitty at work and I need to relax. Went to have diner with my friends in Long Beach last night, which was cool. They want to go to some club on Friday night but can't agree on which one to go to.

Fin du...

I thought the Dresden Dolls were amazing. I was completely mesmerized. Others seemed a little bored. I guess it's all in what types of music interest you.

I was at the FischerSpooner show at HOB. We were probably in the same audience. I was floored by their performance. It seemed more like a theatrical performance than a concert.

It's Monday night and am enjoying my last few moments of peace before the Cannes film festival zoo kicks off. While the writers will be enjoying all these great screenings of the new works from Cronenberg, Wenders, Van Sant and Von Trier, I'll be slaving here, publishing our coverage. Fortunately the LA film fest is coming up next month and I'll be the one having...

Are you kidding? I didn't know they did a warm-up show. Now I'm bummed. I would've gone to that. I've been contemplating going to see Peter Murphy at HOB, but like you I haven't listened to him much since Cut You Up. I think I'll take the money for that concert and go see Kasabian or Fischer Spooner instead.

As for NIN, the new material sounded incredible live. The show really blew me away. I saw them 5 years ago in an arena and I was not impressed, so my expectations were pretty low. The smaller venue may have helped this time around. I also really enjoyed the Dresden Dolls opening the show. If you hear anything about more SoCal dates be sure to share!

So I ended up not going to Coachella, because everybody flaked. Hopefully I'll catch NIN, Bahaus & New Order on tour these following months.

I went to see Irish band the Wonderstuff at the Galaxy Theatre last week. It was quite depressing as the venue was almost empty. Their new material isn't as good as what they could do a decade ago, but that was...

If you can catch NIN in San Diego, you should. I went to Vegas to see NIN at The Joint (instead of Coachella because all my friends were flaking also). It was an amazing show.

Did you read the reviews of Bauhaus at Coachella? I was quite intrigued and it's one performance I am sorry I missed.

Que se passe-t'il ? Well, last week I had a cocktail party at my place to celebrate my Bday. It was a blast and I got pretty wasted. But my fuckin' neighbours kept complaining and they sent to my place the security guard, then the manager of the apartment complex and finally the cops. I couldn't believe those fuckin' snitches, especially since I'm harldy ever...

I've been pretty busy lately, which is a good thing as routine bores me. Last Saturday, I went to get a tattoo at True Tattoo in Hollywood and am very happy with the result. However, the 2 girls I was supposed to go out with stood me up on Saturday night and the other 2 plans I had sucked. So I didn't end up doing...

I've spent a lot of time hanging out with my friends on 2nd street, in Belmont Shore, Long Beach lately. I'd like to move other there and get closer to the beach but I have to figure out if it will be worth it or not to move.

I went to a party at a friend's apartment in Marina del rey on Saturday night and...

Monday soir

Last Thusday night, I went to see the Decemberist at the Henri Fonda in Hollywood. Even though, I had hardly heard of them before going--my friends had asked me to go with them--I had fun because they are good musicians and pretty original.

On Friday night, my friend wanted us to go for her Bday to that 80's club in Hollywood, just accross...

On Thursday night, I went to the French consul residence in Beverly Hills for the announcement of the LA French film festival. Most peope were dressed for a cocktail party and way older than me, which made me look like I didn't belong there. I found kinda amusing that the Americans who were there came to talk to me...

Last week was pretty fun: I had a cocktail party at my place on Friday night, saw somebody I hadn't seen in a while and went to the Razzies ceremony on Saturday night--after that I headed to the Cat & the fiddle on Sunset and then to that 80's bar which looks like a hair salon (I don't remember the name.)

The 25th Razzie Awards...

Mercredi

I took the Deadly Departed Tour in Hollywood last weekend, which was bizarre and creepy enough to be a lot of fun. It's definitively not a touristic thing--you get to see the Charles Manson massacre house--yes the one where Reznor recorded The Downward Spiral--Bela Lugosi's last apartment, which is even more depressing than his "film location" house in Tim Burton's Ed Wood....
