I was going through some of my stuff at my parents' house that I had left there when I moved out years ago and found a sealed box of Topps Cyndi Lauper trading cards. How rad is that? I want to have an 80s party just so I can hand those out as party favors.
emilygee:
I am streching the limits of my sanity in this job. Unbearable as it used to exist is now the status quo.

And I could sure use some 80's nostolgia to spruce up my space. May I have two trading cards, please?

For the last week or so I've had that song Self Control by Laura Branigan in my head. You know that song, right? The one from the 80s that goes "You take myself, you take my self control" in the chorus, and then all of a sudden it breaks into a single loud power chord that makes you want to RAWK for just an instant......

Possession?

I've never heard that song...or at least don't think I have. To Limewire I go!!!

And imagine that. We both go to New York and I get spit on by gangstas and you almost get hit on by gangstas. So were like basically blood brothers now...right?!?!

Reason #453 why San Francisco rules:

Just when I thought I had been everywhere and seen everything cool, along came the "first annual video game music showcase" or something like that. It took place in the middle of the Tenderlon, in a 5th story room called the Drum Machine Museum. (what the hell? a place like that actually exists?). The attendees were video game music...

So.. the past week has found me and the girl I was seeing breaking up... or at least slowing things down, I don't really know. She's going to have to move to SoCal in the next few months, and doesn't want to get too attached. I'm trying not to think about it too much, or to think about it as having gained a friend, but...

Like they say... all good things come to end. At least, it's an amicable end, or pause smile

By the way, optimism is a good thing. At least in my book. There's often a positive to every negative. It keeps the balance wink
longblackbangs:
wow, I'm sorry to hear about you and the lady. I guess leaving on good terms is the best thing that can happen in that case, though. Still, it can't be easy.

Well, with the gift of time you should give me a ring sometime.

Oh, Rational Youth and Ultravox! I got around to downloading a number of their songs and am really digging it. I think I'm just gonna buy the British Sea Power since I've been hearing good things about them for some time. Have you heard anything by Radio Berlin? Their most recent album "Glass" is tits.

Geez, it's been hectic recently. Between work, clubs, shows, parties, and an improptu trip to LA, I've been busy as hell. And I finally decided I should start going to this site some more - you know, get my money's worth. Although I'm almost off work right now, so I guess I should have done this sooner. Oh well. Until then, here are my reasons...

Those concerts sound good to me! I haven't been to a show in ages frown

You need to work a little harder on that 'getting the money worth' thing biggrin

I saw Mates of State last night... one of the bands that opened for them, Smoosh, was a duo consisting of a boy and a girl. Now when I say "boy" and "girl" I mean kids who were scarcely 1/3 my age. Seriously, an 11 year old girl and a 9 year old boy playing happy minimalist keyboard music may sounds gimmicky, and it is,...

Smoosh.

Haha, fun name.

If I come to Cali, there will be mass molestation.

You will have to confine me in a room with padded walls.

but were they any good?

Valentine's Day (*shudder*) was actully cool this year. A holiday I normally hate was spent doing things I love with an awesome girl. We went to our favorite Italian restaurant, exchanged gifts (in my hatred of standard greeting cards, I made her a record jacket, complete with cover art, a tracklisting, and the dust sleeve was where I wrote the smarmy stuff that would otherwise...

I totally agree. This was the first Valetine's day I actually enjoyed and it was te best I've ever had. And didn't focus on the commercial stuff, I just focused on having a good time, and I did! biggrin
longblackbangs:
Yes! Yes! Yes! The Prids show was my plan for the evening. My friend has been also raving about Crosstide since he last saw them in Chico. He said they were similar to the Stills. So hopefully his comparisons are correct.

Yesterday I caved in and bought a mannequin to put in my room. I've wanted one for a long time, for no reason in particular aside from they make great conversation pieces. So I went to a thrift store a couple blocks away and bought an old blue full-body one from the 50s or 60s . It's either a flat-chested or prebuscent girl (with a...

It doesn't make you creepy or gay... I'd say it makes you a guy who likes to play dress-up and that sounds more like a metrosexual to me! LOL biggrin I'm kidding.

I sleep with a snoopy doll and I don't even think of what that makes me. Damn, now I kinda wonder... surreal

I live off of Lawton so thanks to the ol' English alphabet I am right next to the Judah line.

And about the swimming pool. After I posted that comment and my hair had fully dried I realized what the chlorine does. Basically my hair started to get thin and curl. So on wednesday I swam with my head out of the water...and wil continue to do so until I get my act together and get a swim cap.

Your live-in hipster sounds cool as hell. You got to let us know the first time you wake up in the middle of the night and nearly poop your pants thinking someone's lurking in your room. Actually, get yourself one more and you can have some hipster friends to drive in the carpool lane during rush hour biggrin

The show at Hotel Utah sounds sick. I'm always a sucker for a good sythpop show. Do you know which of the two you are gonna be going to?

Wow... here I am at work, and I'm bored. And all I can think about is how much I want to be out of here so I can go outside and bask in the last few rays on the sun. How can I be bored when my boss is gone for a month and a half, I have my Gameboy Advance and the new Zelda...

Oh man, if I had acces to the internet while at work. Lucky you. Well, I can't complain too much since "doing work" isn't really part of my job description in the first place. But, I guess one always wants just a little more than he has. If they gave me web access I probably wouldn't be happy until they let me sit around in my underwear and drink wine whilst on the job.

Yeah, in the intro to the Elliott book the author comes straight out and says he couldn't get anything out of the family or close friends. Maybe not amazing, but it is interesting though.

Anything cool, shows or otherwise, coming up soon?

long entry whatever oops...

So I was checking my email this morning at work, when lo and behold somehow a piece of spam mail slipped beneath the excite.com mail radar and into my inbox. The subject line: "pHILLL, sur$$$pri$e her with yOVre big## cum^^^shot". And I was thinking "wow... that's a weird thing to surprise one with. How does one do that? So on Tuesday night I stayed over at my parents' house, since I had a dentist appointment the next morning and the dentist is a few blocks from my parents. I've never had so many memories come crashing back into my head. Parents, friends, relatives, pets... they all filled my head until I almost cried tears of pure nostalgia. It's not like I never visit...

Wow, I only have to mumble a slight something about a place in Chico and you can call it. Your two-for-two. First with Frankies and then with Lesalles.

Okay, hypothetical Chico situation: I just broke my leg trying to jump off a balcony into a swimming pool...where am I? And I mean before the hospital, obviously.

I got my tickets for Interpol on Valentine's Day. How rad of a date is that gonna be?

I just bought two new large shelves to hold all my cds. Before ahnd they were shelved in many different-sized/shaped black racks . So I stayed up late rearranging all my cds, alphabetizing them, shelving them, moving the shelves around to my liking, taking all the empty...

Hey, it was cool getting to hang out for a bit with you last night. It's been awhile. I was in a bit of a wierd mood last night, "a funk" if you will, so I might have seemed even less social than I normally am. Anyway, Mondays at the Hemlock always seem like a safe bet as of late so you should swing by some time.
