How/where you been?

Is this still going?

1) Hiroshima Mon Amour - kind of like the Lost In Translation of the 50's (...or should that be 60's? I can't remember now), but both very dense and very, very cool. Beutifully filmed and written, and more intense upon repeated viewings as all the little details come out. Mmm.

2) The Shadow Lines - by Amitav Ghosh. A book exploring and exploiting the ideas of memory and space, both within the worlds of its characters, and in the fluidity of its construction. Also: Its about an Indian boy (to man), London in the 30's and later, the Indian partition, and a cruel, beautiful girl called Ila. I'm a lit major, and (other than the all-powerful Moby Dick) this is my favourite book.

3) Being the biggest music dope, I hesitate to recommend anything - it'd probably be stuff that's only just stopped being hep - but, at least for a laugh, check out The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown. Carnivalesque acid music from back in the hippie days.

1) If someone, say me, was to start putting up stencils around their new town to say, make it more homely, and they were to - suppose - blatantly rip off the Smiths by having a design around the idea of - lets pretend - "Girlfriend With A Comb-Over," just how much would that suck, theoretically speaking?

3) I don't get this: when man went to the moon, right - those kids (the ones that set foot there) - they were the pinnacle of human evolution up to that point. The fine, sharp tip of everything that had been developing since grunty language, fire, and the wheel. And we're not talking just technology here; the conditions throughout the whole world had to combine to make the space race happen - politics, finance, science ... the things that inform those (philosophy, etc) - really, it was amazing. So my question is this: given that - given that they were it as far as people were concerned when they were on the moon, and that everything came together for them to get there, why did they come back. What's the deal with that?
