What I've read so far this summer (part 2):
On Bullshit (I forget who by, but it was really good)
Stephen King's The Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger
Stephen King's The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three
Stephen King's The Dark Tower III: The Wastelands
(I can't seem to find my copy of IV: Wizard and Glass... it's a hardcover, shouldn't be hard...

The Dark Tower series is excellent. It gets weirder as the series progresses, though. Probably good to read while you're a little stoned.

Noam Chomsky reminds me that I have those two massive Disinformation books that I REALLY need to crack open.

I'm watching Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

It's delightful.

So far, I've caught references to War of the Worlds (heat ray sound), Star Wars(R2 sound), and The Day the Earth Stood Still (a lot of the robots look like Gort). And I'm only forty minutes in. And I'm not that much of a sci-fi buff.

Edit: Oh, and Godzilla. His silhouette...

I just realized that the line in "Party Up (Up in Here)" by DMX is:

You know who's gonna find you?
Some old man fishin'

I could never decipher that one until now.

Hey, in the Hendrix story, what's up with this sentence:

"He was last in his class for , was caught in the latrine playing his meat horn,"?

So...

I get to quit my soul-sucking office job at the end of the summer. My mom is going to subsidize my lifestyle with $75/week plus letting me live at home for free while she decides whether or not she wants to stay in Boston.

This is all because of the dogs. If I were to work, go to classes, act, and do my scholarship...

"Let's Get Small" is just as good (it came out a year earlier). I get the jokes mixed up now but both are all-timers.

I got the 60 gb - the prices went down because the new color generaton is coming out, so I got lucky. But now I'm like, do I really need that entire Promise Ring or Screaming Trees album taking up space? Would I ever listen to it again otherwise? It's making me re-evaluate the whole music-ownership thing now that it's a matter of disk space.

Heh heh. biggrin

It's a catchy tune.

I saw They Might Be Giants for the first time yesterday. It was pretty awesome. They were playing KidsFest, so they shied away from their standard material, but it was still awesome. They played one of my two all time favorite songs (NYC), so that was good.
Here's the playlist out of order, because I can't remember the order.
* No!
* Alphabet of Nations...

Shalome] beat me to the punch on this article. I put some work into it, and I hate to see it go to waste, so I'll post it here.

RIP news story. You were my one true friend.

Apparently, I couldn't remember the movie Stand and Deliver well enough to remember the title, but I remembered it well enough to look up via the main character's name, Jaime Escalante, on IMDB.

Memory is a goofy thing...

My mom moved to Boston and I'm keeping the dogs until she gets a permanent place. The week after she left, one of the dogs, Tess, sent her this e-mail:

I WOKE JAMES UP AND WENT OUTSIDE WITH NICK AND WENT IN THE BASEMENT
WITH NICK AND LICKED HIM AND BARKED AT THE MAILMAN AND JAMES CAME HOME
AND PETTED ME AND LOOKED AT MY...

Rad! Twelfth Night is my favorite Shakespeare play, so far.

Your list of books you've read so far this summer looks pretty damn good.

It is! And I'll be there tomorrow! Try to contain your jealousy! (It'll most likely be pouring rain anyway.)

It's so incongruous to watch things like City Slickers or Dilbert. Kevin' Arnold's adult voice coming from the strangest of places. wink

I think I'm going to take the money Lyric Opera is paying me to buy a new 60 gig iPod photo. I figure at $370 (the education discoutn price), betwen the $300+ I'm getting from them, plus the 10% discount for trading in my dead iPod, plus (hopefully) the $50 from the battery settlement, I should be able to get it.

Also, they've invited me...

I'm finally getting a chance to do some real, good theatre. My last show, as assistant sound designer, was disappointing to say the least.

This one is called She Loves Me, it's a 40's musical comedy. It's no Godot, but it'll do. I'm doing run crew. $8.50/hour, 25-30 hours total. Nice chunk of change. Chance to work with some real professionals. I'm happy about this.

Waitaminute...did you say Godot? I fucking LOVE that play!!! love love love

Congrats on the crew job. I never got to do crew outside of high school, but it's fun work, that. Being paid for it would have been divine!
