Ooooohhhh... My daddy gets NHK on satellite because he's a Japanophile, and I watch Domokun, and it's awesome. Because Guitar Wolf does the theme song. And there is a possibly gay rabbit who wears glasses.

Oh my gosh, your comment saved me and also re-bruised my coccyx. I RAN to the den, which is our only digital cable hooked up TV, and turned on the Nickelodeon "Noggin" channel to see if the Degrassi marathon had started. It hadn't. Some crap called Gullah Gullah Island was on. I re-bruised my coccyx because the floor was wet and I skidded and fell on my ass. My tailbone, more specifically, or coccyx. Degrassi doesn't start 'til 6. They say they're playing every Degrassi episode ever, but that's not true because they're only playing "The Next Generation" eps. True, they've got Spike and Snake and Joey, but it ain't The Kids of Degrassi St., and it ain't Degrassi Junior High.

Cheech, send me some lyrics and I'll pour it into the noise. I know you got the good stuff! Whatever we put down, I'll send back to you for critical analysis. Let the good times roll-oh.

My grandmother (fathers side) died last night. Id like to say that we were close, but we werent. I didnt make any effort to stay in touch with her over the last several years and when I was finally getting around to caring enough about family she had lost her memory. When I heard she had Alzheimers symptoms, I figured I shouldnt bother to try...

Many people aren't aware of it, with all the competing attention from Christmas, Hannukah, and Kwanzaa, but December 15th is a major holiday, too-- it's

Play Lots of Velvet Underground Day

It doesn't always show up on store-bought calendars, but it's a long-standing tradition. First celebrated by the Iroquois Indians, it was made an official holiday by Warren G. Harding in 1922.

Celebrate accordingly.

I missed PLoVUD! frown

Did you know that Freddie Mercury and his boyfriend used to buy each other koi for birthdays and other significant (to them) events? A guy that was employed to change the water in their pool managed to forget to plug the filter back in when he finished working with them sometime last year and he killed almost 500,000 worth of fish! shocked Doh!

I think I'll have whiskey for the weekend instead of lager, or the bottle of Zubrowka vodka (it's Boris Yeltsin's favourite brand) that just arrived from France... wink

two films I saw...

In America-- I got a good vibe from the preview, so saw it plot-unknown... usually, this works out for me. It sure did today.
This is a lovely film about a young Irish family in New York. Despite the title, it's less about the immigrant experience than the story of these people and a neighbor, a very touching story of...

I'm looking forward to seeing "In America" too, because it seems like one of those rare movies that's emotionally open and warm without being manipulative. Too often, you can almost hear the director screaming at you "YOU WILL CRY NOW!"

(an excerpt of a New York Times Book Review piece by W. Jeffrey Bolster about a book on Magellan, Over the Edge of the World, by Laurence Bergreen)

Magellan himself did not live to complete the circumnavigation. He was a victim of his own arrogance and authoritarianism, and his penchant for confrontational risk-taking ended in knee-deep water off the Philippine island of Mactan. Neither...

(Vonnegut interviews, part 3; from interviews compiled in 1977...)

Interviewer- Do you mind describing your capture by the Germans?
Vonnegut- Gladly. We were in this gully about as deep as a World War I trench. There was snow all around. Somebody said we were probably in Luxembourg. We were out of food.
Interviewer- Who was we?
Vonnegut- Out battalion scouting unit. All six of us...

The "rinda" was indeed a typo... though an impressive one, seeing as the "k" is nowhere near the "r" in any sense... possibly it was like cheerleader saying "grood," in that I was thinking "really kinda" and it got compressed into a Carrollian portmanteau.

Ouch indeed, though I'm all but entirely healed... physically and psychically.

Yep, De-Luxe was given a good deal of airplay for early Lush, meaning every once in a great while.

It was the first song of theirs I heard and it is what made me a huge Lush fan. The video was so cool, at least it was to me.
