I meant to ask last night if anyone wanted to go to see Me and You and Everyone We Know with Crux and I tomorrow. Instead, a video controller was thrust in my hand, Halo was played, drinks drunk, Twister and scantily-clad ladies and... well... I forgot. If anyone goes, we (well, I at least, assuming C can make it) will be at E Street...

I know I said I'd write about Dr. John's book, but I've also read some baseball books lately. One of the players I always wondered about growing up was Ted "Tiger" Lyons, who was on the Chicago White Sox for over 20 years and only won 20 games in 3 seasons but still had 260 wins; I guess it shows how lousy those teams were...

Maybe I shoulda updated last Thursday.... or put more than a one-line reference to the fact that I'd be gone for a week?

Anyway, I was out of town for a week and now I'm back.

I took what was definitely a relax-and-do-nothing type of vacation at the beach in North Carolina.
I also saw kritter at Busch Gardens, and had a good time doing...

Hey there---

Glad you had a great remainder of your vacation. Yeah, Bush Gardens was cool. I mean it was great having some intelligent conversation. Your right though, the traffic sucked, though it didn't take me too long to get home. That's the one thing I really hate about living in Hampton Roads, its traffic HELL.

Not to much going on here lately though. As a matter of fact I'm pretty bored. You know what they say though, only boring people get bored. So I guess I'm in trouble.

You need to talk to someone about getting me on the SGDC group. I tried but never got a reply.

It's raining here today, and I really need to run. Yes, I mean literally run. I'm supposed to run a half-marathon on labor day and I'm losing training days.

So, I'm out for now. Don't be a stranger though.

LATE!!!!!!

What musical instruments do you play, or played in the past? + 7/21 update

I played some recorder (standard kids school instrument) and clarinet in elementary school. I had a bass for a while in junior high/ early high school and took lessons... but after a while stagnated from not having anyone to play with. My friend Eric played guitar but... I dunno, we just...

I played the viola and violin until I graduated from high school.

Well I played trumpet from middle school to high school. In college I really didn't touch it and still don't. I still have it and from time to time play it, just to remember when I was good at something. smile

Doing nothing makes for a relaxing weekend (well, 1/2 weekend; I worked yesterday), but a borrring-azz Journal, yeah?

At least I got my mail for punkrockjuliette and pygmy totally set to go. I should maybe burn Voivod for the weekend meeting of NoControl, and get CruxPlusOne's mixes together (although not the Morrissey videos, as the trunk of my car in late July in...

Yeah, it's a pretty good article. But really it's not new to anyone who likes "world music". My group (are you in it? The world music group?) has a short disclaimer in the description, even. Like any label, it doesn't really mean anything.

I have one other wig, but it looks ridiculous. More of a novelty thing (it's purple) tongue

Ah, math puzzles! I'm bad at those blush But I encourage you to post some in the puzzles group!

Wow those celeb deliveries look pretty cool. I always got the impression that Amazon doesn't turn much of a profit, but I guess they have enough money to be able to do this?

I believe they recently reissued it, so it's not so hard to find - you should check out Roland Kirk's album the Inflated Tear.. easily rates among his absolutely best work.

Oh, I didn't realize it was a VHS copy. I guess I didn't read it thoroughly enough. In that case, I'll bow out since I do not currently own a functional VCR. Drat. blackeyed

When are you going to Rehoboth? I love it over there. My parents are retiring to that area when they return from their 2-year stint abroad. Anyway, I wouldn't mind catching up with Cruxy and yourself there, if'n that's alright with youse guys.

As I have mentioned, I am newly single again and should have more time for hanging out and the like. Actually, I'd really like to organize a road trip with some people to...somewhere cool...I don't know where. NYC is always fun, but its cost-prohibitive for the student-types we know. Hell, maybe we all just head to the beach or the mountains, drink bourbon and beer and act stupid for a couple of days. That could be entertaining.

Oh, I would argue that RM's Avalon was a pretty decent record, but I suppose that's stating the obvious. How is that new Voivod record? I hadn't even heard that Newstead joined the band. A quick check of the band's website also explains that original vocalist Snake is back in the fold. Very cool! I may have to check that one out, myself. Does it make me one of the musically unwashed masses to say that I downloaded Trout Mask Replica and Bat Chain Puller recently, but couldn't get into either one? We can't all be "cool" like that, eh? whatever

Okay, I wrote yesterday about free music video tapes for me... now I am writing about free music video tapes for you.

Yes, what you just read is not a typo... or maybe it is. I'm a litle drunk right now.* I decided to bring home some of the other music VHS tapes, that I passed on, to see if anyone wanted any...

i had to read mysteries of pittsburgh in college for an english class, believe it or not, and i fucking hated it. i don't remember anything about it now, except that i was glad when we were done with it.

we also read keri hulme's "the bone people" which i loved, so the class wasn't a total wash.

VIDEOS and 5 MORE PICS

So I was gonna write about the CDs Ive been buying but first, Id like to mention the 5 video tapes I just got for free from work. Someone brought in a bunch of VHS tapes and many of them were music ones. The ones I took home were: The Cure, Show; The Cure, Staring at the Sea;...

one if my Things To Do In Life is to see an aurora.

And no, you're not crazy - we have similar facial shapes, long noses. Actually we also have similar, um, chest shapes, come to think of it. Though she's completely gorgeous.

THREE THINGS

1. I've decided to put up some nice photos for you all to look at. Some swiped from the 'net, some from photography books, one from Olsen, and so on. Some I might've put up long ago, but so long ago that many new folks didn't see them. Feel free to add artistic/ lovely photos of your own below. You can find...

I'll give Dead Man another shot. Honestly, I love slow films (I'm a Bergman fan, after all). It could be that I was not in the mood for such a tempo at the time.

When you discuss death as fate, doesn't that go for all of us? Are we all the dead men?

thanks for the compliment, you have a great collection of pictures here. smile
