You might be able to join a family support group. I'm pretty sure they would let a GF in the group. If you are not close to the post/base you might find something close to home, maybe a National Guard unit who has deployed members. It sounds like he is going through a normal process, let him know you don't want to make any life changing moves, like breaking up or getting married before he leaves. Let him know you will write and call and send cookies For some getting deployed is similar to a grieving process and there isn't much you can do other then offer your shoulder. I guess if none of this great advice works stick with the Xanax.
