for the next few days i will be sharing my celebration of kwanzaa. in yesterday's post i gave an introduction and discussed the first principle, umoja, which means unity. read up if you need a refresher.
today is the second day and the principle for today is kujichagulia (koo-jee-cha-goo-lee-yah). this was always one of my favorites because, come on...its one of the coolest words to say. Kujichagulia means self-determination. it means not allowing others to influence what you think or feel about yourself.
in terms of my own life, i would have to say that i am the epitome of self detrmination. i make and play by my own rules and you must accept and deal with me on MY terms. not yours. i defy any attempt to classify or categorize me in some nice neat little package. in the words of krs-one...i am everywhere and nowhere at once.
self determination is critical to who i am because i have never been able to feel comfortable following the path that others take. so in the coming year and those that follow, i know that i will continue to stand out as that cool but geeky dude that does things force people to reevaluate what they think about me, themselves and the world around them.

I think for this year, I will try to become more confident in my abilities to fully utilize my potential. I know my strengths and weaknesses; it's time to use my strengths and work on my weaknesses instead of being afraid.
Improvement of self will be a major part of my life in 2007
