Yeah, I'd try not to take it personally. You're stunning and I'm sure know it, or should know that others find you humbly beautiful. I'd have a serious talk w/ him about it. At worst, it's an extremely embarrassing talk but you both walk away w/ more perspective from the other person.
I'd bet on top of whatever problems he has going on, feeling like he's letting you down must really make him feel horrible - That could only compound the boner killing.
