The buzz saw snarled and rattled in the yard
And made dust and dropped stove-length sticks of wood,
Sweet-scented stuff when the breeze drew across it.
And from there those that lifted eyes could count
Five mountain ranges one behing the other
Under the sunset far into Vermont.
And the saw snarled and rattled, snarled and rattled,
As... Read More
Why is it that movie directors like playing Donovan while people on screen do fucked up shit? Is it just all about the contrast?
I got to watch the Oregon Supreme Court hear oral arguments about a case this morning. It was pretty amazing. It was clear from the start that the Justices really liked one argument better than the other, so they tore the... Read More
I'm not well up on the Scottish thing - my family is Welsh (with occasional patches of Irish) but my son doesn't think of himself as anything other than English; which I find rather sad, really. (TBH, I was born in England, I've never lived anywhere else, and I speak no Welsh. So, you know, I can't claim Welshness. But I don't feel English.)
Thanks. I am trying very hard to set a civilized, thoughtful tone, even if I have to use dictatorial powers to do it at first. I think the group will become self-policing quickly. Meanwhile, I think there is a lot of good stuff there already.
I hate when you get done writing a post and then accidentally back out of it.
On thursday my group has torts until 8:00 at night and no classes on friday. People complain about the late class, but I kind of like it. It's a built in group of people to go to the bar with. So we went down to this bar under some... Read More
It's actually Toots and the Maytals. You'll always be just second best!
Actually, reggaemuffin points for even knowing who Peter Tosh is. I bet you're one of them smart fellers that thinks No Woman No Cry isn't about backstabbing, good-fer-nothin' ladies.
Also, while I'm wasting space in your comment section, I feel the need to respond to your lovely note on my last entry. The fact is, the stories where one of us ends up on fire are too commonplace to mention every little incident. Spitting out something I regard as clevel in retrospect, on the other hand, warrants a blog entry. To illustrate my point, on that very same trip, I had the tread melted off my boots (-20F outside, bonfire [which was lit via roman candle and gasoline soaked gloves from the preceeding chainsaw fiasco], poorly insulated boots. Was admiring the steam rising from my boots propped up by the fire when that steam turned to smoke, and then steam again as I dove into a snowbank feet-first).
Hello all.
Just put in to harbor.
It was one hell of a trip. The Albatross left New Bedford six months ago to hunt for makos in the southern seas. We hadn't been out for two weeks when the first mate seen some lights from atop the fo'c'sle and called the captain up. Now, old Captain Aubrey is a shrewd old dog, and he claps... Read More

The falcon cannot hear the falconer;

I read Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart a few weeks ago, and was treated to this poem for the first time. While I can't claim to be a devotee of Yeats (or any other poet, or poem producing entity), it gave me chills reading it, and reminded me of the dearth of poetry in my life.
Don't suppose you'd have any recommendations for a raffish boor such as myself, would you?
So, the lady and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary on Friday. I took her out for a wicked fancy dinner. One of those places where they don't even show you a menu, they just bring out the seven courses one by one. I had the steak, and man was it good. The nice thing about that kind of restaurant is that it's so small.... Read More
Ah, okay. I think it's fair to post elsewhere about SG, personally; so long as you link to it
Though personally I'd prefer to put the entire text up here as well; to avoid this sort of difficulty, basically.
I am resigned to being a statistical outlier, anyhow
To be honest, I have no idea where we have disagreed. Maybe you just keep it to yourself, maybe my memory is beginning to fail me. I don't know. But in my defense, I play devil's advocate a lot and I know for a fact that this has been confused by people as me arguing for what I don't believe in. Perhaps it's my fault for not making it obvious enough. Also, I will argue points with those I agree with, I just question their logic (I'm not talking about you by any means. I'm just pointing it out). A lot of times I agree with the end of one's arguments it's just hard for me to understand how they got there or I simply don't agree with the path they followed to that end. These may or may not have contributed to our disagreement. I just thought I'd point it out.
Anyway, yes, the robot's going to be a new trend, and we're going to make it happen. *high five*
lol, I remember that. I think we were in general agreement on that though, and I understand everyone gets a little worked up sometimes. I've seen the best of them loose it. No biggie, as long as everyone can kiss and make up. Which we all did. I've only run across one person in here that was so pigheaded he wouldn't accept my apology, although I still stand by the fact that he refused see my point to begin with.
And I understand about the Israel/Palestinian thing. That's always a sensitive topic for all those involved (inflammatory assholes not included, but who cares about them).
I can't sleep. Like, ever. I'm tempted to think I have insomnia, but I do sleep, it's just at all the wrong times of the day. Like, I'll fall asleep at seven in the morning. Problematic when I have class at 9:30.
So, I've been at law school for a semester, and I'm finally starting to meet my classmates. This is a good thing. I'm... Read More
Exams are all done, and they weren't as bad as I thought they might be. For various and sundry reasons I missed like a month of school- maybe more like a month and a half, and had to make all the reading up two weeks ago so that I could spend last week studying so that I could spend the first half of last week...
