Guess what?

... my new PC doesn't work very good!

I haven't been online since the last time I posted anything here in my journal.
BUMMER!

Did I mention I use dial-up? ...yeah, yeah -I know. I'm a loser.

Anyway...
GOOD NEWS!

My financial situation has improved, I'm in the bucks (a large retroactive disability payout $$$$) and I'm out of debt. Happy, Happy, Happy!...

Isn't that odd how spending sprees really can lift one's mood? Maybe this conspicuous consumption phenomenon has some legitimacy!

Enjoy!!

Hope you are doing well!

...what day is it? Tuesday?

Been offline for the past few days. My PCs were being serviced by my friend who's a completely self-taught computer whiz.

I traded a snare drum and some old drum hardware to my friend in exchange for him building me a new PC to accomodate my PNY GeForce FX 5700 Ultra video card, it outclasses the motherboards in both of...

I've been on vacation all week, and I didn't miss my computer one bit. Nope.
Until I got home and saw all the stuff I'd missed.... eek! gotta catch up! If only I had time to knit beer cozies.
emmagoldman:
Ugh. I'm in the process of either upgrading my crap PC in order to work on music, or getting another keyboard. I realized I can do alot more with synth programs, etc., on computer, but I just hate the freakin' things. Good luck!!

Hola! Yes, I will add you as a friend, thank you.

I am using Pintech surface mount triggers on my toms. Not the greatest in the world, but they work well for my budget, and more importantly, for the music. I'm not doing any real senstive grace notes or anything, just hitting them hard. Phil Rudd on speed. The reaction is immediate, thankfully, and that's my primary concern.

I prefer the ddrum triggers, but I understand the new Roland triggers are supposed to be great. I'm a student, so I'm lacking in the necessary funds, but I hope to pick up at least one at some point soon to try it out. I use the same triggers for my bass drum - I tape the plain black trigger to the inside of the batter head, about 4-5 inches from the beaters. Very low-tech, but I've received the best response this way, especially with double-kick patterns. As it turns out, I think the best trigger set ups vary by drummer, and trial and error is the best route to success. I am lucky in that what works best for the band happens to be rather inexpensive.

A lot of the samples are my own, or from our guitar player, who does the bulk of our programming. Some are from existing libraries, like the Yamaha RM50 or the DMPro. Any "real" drum samples come from libraries, and then get tweaked and beefed up.

The A4000 is capable of velocity sensitive remote triggering, but I'm controlling this through the RM50. To run triggers out of the A4000 requires an expansion board, which I lack, so I'm using MIDI.

Yes, I do exactly what Butch Vig does. You're right, there is very little acoustic value to the drums. Oddly enough, one night we had problems with my mixer (we submix the DAT and my triggers into my mixer and run that to the front of house) and I had to mic my kit. People told me afterwards that my kick and snare sounded amazing. I think they were smoking crack, but one never knows.

I use Shure in-ear monitors, with a submix from my mixer. The only real technical difficulty I've encountered is that if I'm not careful with changing/cleaning the foam on these, they can slide out of my ears. Other than that, I'm wired pretty tight, and I haven't had any significant problems that weren't the result of my own screw-ups (wrong cable into wrong input, etc.).

I like Mesa, by the way. There used to be a coffee house there, a free-standing house that also sold second-hand clothes, and had a huge yard. Can't remember the name, but great coffee.

Peace.

Hey Apostrophe

I'm on this kick cause of this movie I just saw

Whats the worst thing youve ever done to another person?
docsmith:
If thats what you feel the worst about doing to someone else then I think your probably a pretty good person.

no one can do everything perfectly, and hesitation is something everyone deals with all the time. For someone going through emotional trauma theres no telling what goes through there head. Even if you wanted to be with her, to say goodbye, you might not have realized it at the time. Most people go into a sort of auto pilot to avoid the pain.

And--just a thought but do you think that maybe she would have prefered for you to avoid that pain. she was your mom after all they often want whats best for us.

Try this:

Place the tip of your right index finger on the tip of your left thumb. Then, place the tip of your right pinky on the tip of your left index finger, and then place the tip of your right thumb on the tip of your left pinky.

Now, grasp the remaining fingers on both hands so they're curled together in the middle "g.i....

Thank ya for your membership in the Aging Punks group. Being that this is the first group I've administered, it took my damaged brain a little while to locate the "approve" section, so apologies if it took me a while to get to you. Cheers.

It didn't suck.

I went out and partied in style for my B-day, no projectile vomiting, no broken bones, no police contact. But a good time nonetheless.

I did get carded everywhere I went, a 34 yr. old has to feel OK about that, right?

Something weird is happening to me ...what does being happy feel like?

I received another brochure in the mail from Full Sail. How nice that they haven't forgotten about me.

I've been on their mailing list since 1988, right around the time I was thinking about what I wanted to do after highschool. I decided to go to the Los Angeles Recording Workshop instead and I wound up living in LA for 2 1/2 unremarkable years before...

my b-day is coming up and, as usual, I feel simultaneous enthusiasm and repulsion toward the idea of celebrating.

by coincidence, The City of Hope Bone Marrow Transplant Program (the folks who saved my life a year ago) are holding a "Celebration of Life" on Saturday.

I decided to go. even if I can't get a date, the nurses love me- so I'll have good...

hello my friendly misfit...uh friend

I hope your at least somewhat like me so I don't seem too weird.

I'm one of those folks whos absolutly enthused to have someone to talk to even if I don't know them.

On that topic I've looked over your profile in an attempt to know something about you.

Now that I feel particularly versed in the pink lore maybe I can carry on an interesting conversation

So what exactly is crosstown traffic like? What sort of ghosts do you have? And what questions do you have for me?
