Have just taken my hamster to the vet to get her nails clipped. Ohmygawd, what a bloody DRAMA QUEEN!!! After wriggling & squirming & trying to bite everyone in site during the entire 5-minute upside-down procedure, she then proceeded to pooh on the vet

I wish that America was more unprejudiced. Even though we have a wide range of race and cultures living here, I still do not think that we live in a fair nation.
I've been wanting to get into manga art for a while now. In fact, Angela & Richard bought us a book with a whole bunch of ready-to-frame, full-colour manga prints plus a book on "How to Draw Manga: Female Characters" for our wedding. Last night I had a brainwave: with Ange as my inspiration, I will create my first really large-scale, commemorative piece for our...

You're a winter bunny ... until you hit the -16'C temperatures we have here some nights.
But .. I do agree with you. I can't stand high-humidity heat like you have in Durban. (Or here in New Jersey in summer.)
So even in Joburg's dry summer heat, air-con in a car is not-negotiable.

Am back at work after a much-needed year-end break. Had a fabulous NYE party at Lara & Mervin's place. Lee & Warren were very civil towards one another; Yolanda & I got on like a house on fire. She even bought me a bottle of my favourite perfume - "to make up for 2 Christmas's & 1 birthday that [she] had missed" [due to our...

Have just come back from a nice Newswcafe lunch with hubby. We are both extremely quiet at work at the mo.
Had a great long weekend. Kicked it off with the Teknotribe party @ Songwriters Club, Newtown (next door to Fuel Bar) on Thursday night. After about an hour, we were dragged off to DCM (Don't Cry Mama) - a gay club in Braamfontein -...

oh maaaaan .. I miss SA clubs and raves.
With the insane War on Drugs here in the USA, they have all but killed the club scene, and New York is deaddeaddead. Nevermind New Jersey - which has always been the heartloand of the Bon Jovi style rockers .. but I digress.
Just mention of clubs like GASS, has me pining for the great parties at ESP in the late 90's when I was still in Joburg. Sundays at ESP must have been the hardest party anywhere on the planet on a Sunday.
*wistful sigh*

Thought it was about time I shared some pix with you. These were taken on a shoot in Feb last year, by a Pretoria-based photographer named Hein Lass. He has a website showcasing his work, which is centred around erotic, gothic, fetish & mythical themes. Check out: *Southern Light*. The location was an abandoned 19th century German missionary station, called Botshabelo - a few...

Have a great Xmas and safe new year
Just over a year ago I had a fall-out with Yolanda, a good friend of mine. Without going into details, let's just say that, in retrospect, I can see how silly it all was. Anyway, after a couple of tentative efforts at rekindling the friendship these past few months - without much success - last night we hooked up again for the first time. We...

Breast augmentation / boob jobs ... this is a touchy subject especially when it relates to self-image. But personally, I'm not a fan. Sure there are cases where it would help the woman's appearance, but generally I'd prefer natural - whether large or small or even flat-chested.
But I'm curious now .. so how do I ask in a non-pervy way to see? And see for myself it you're crazy or if you're right.
There's a flipside to that question (which makes me think it should actually remain unasked) .. what if a woman does show you a photo of her boobs and ask you if you think that a boob job would help. Would it be insulting or add to her poor self-image if you agree? The wrong words here could be devastating to some.
Seriously ... ask your close friends. Ask your husband.
Chances are you're lovable as you are.
And competely off-topic ... it's days like today that I miss Jo'burg.
When I woke up this morning it was -15'C outside according to the temperature meter we had installed.
By 11am, it was up to -6'C.
And winter isn't even quite here yet. *sigh*
Thank heavens that Americans know how to insulate their houses and do central heating as a matter of course. So inside the house I am warmer than I ever was during a Joburg winter .. but maaaaaan, it's a freezing hell outside. I'm just glad we didn't emigrate to Canada.

I seem to be having one of those introspective days today...

Would YOU buy an autobiography of an "unknown" person (ie. normal, non-celebrity status), if the subject matter looked to be of interest to you??
Definitely. If you look at the biographies on the shelves in bookshops, a substantial number of them are on a specific subject or theme - obviously speaking to an audience who share the same interest.
Yours is a topic which surely is a heartfelt one to others with the same experience.
I have to add, that I like your writing style - here and as evidenced in "Paula's Story". You certainly have the ability. ![]()

I actually prefer autobiographies on people that aren't famous. I feel like their lives are somehow more touchable than a celebrity - they aren't living with the stigma of everybody watching them all the time - their mistakes are quiet and more poignant, their triumphs are more earthy and sympathetic. I would be interested in hearing your story, and I am sure there are lots of others who would too.
Had a nice, chilled braai (BBQ) at Richard's new place last night. It is absolutely MASSIVE. A double-storey farmhouse-style dwelling with a huge garden. It's a buttercup yellow with a red tiled roof. I'm sure it was originallly thatched.
As lovely & homely as it feels, it is definitely too big for one person, though. Damnit man, it's just so not right that he has...

Welcome to Girls Only.
Went & saw Lord of War last night. What an awesome film! There were 3 things that stood out for me: firstly, how much I wish I could jump Jared Leto's bones (the man is insanely HOT); secondly, how much Nicholas Cage reminds me of our mate, Mervin; & thirdly, how proudly South African I am (the movie was filmed mostly in Cape Town, our...
