So my employer laid off almost the entire office on Monday, me included. I can support myself on my savings for quite a while if I'm careful, and I do have a little severance coming my way, but ack. Now I have to find a new job. I don't know if you've heard, but there's some concern that the job market is a little underwhelming at the moment.

What's great, though, is having my family try to help and revealing how little they know about what it was that I was doing. My grandpa, for instance, just sent me a link to a security agency - so I could be a security guard. Like, flashlight, taser, etc. Really, uh, really not my thing.

I'm at the age where I want to take jobs that roughly follow my career path, rather than pay the bills for a little while. Maybe I'm being dumb to act picky in an economy like this. Guess we'll find out soon!

Sorry to hear it. Best of luck finding a job in your career and area. Though, heck, if your employer is giving you the shove off, maybe it's time to think about throwing all the cards up in the air, taking the chance, and relocating to where you really want to be.

Haha, nope, you don't have to justify to me - I am just a random stranger on the Internet who thinks you're pretty cool and therefore offers you my own personal brand of suspect advice. smile

We just moved from a house (not much equity, but some) to an apartment in a different city. We are still working to sell the house. It's not looking promising. Financially it was a very foolish decision, and I'm sure the worst is yet to come if we can't sell. But money isn't everything. This was our window, and I am so, so glad to have left our previous city behind.
