Tonight was my best friend's stag party. I'm watching him destroy his life with alcohol. If I wasn't convinced before, I am now. He needs to stop drinking. Completely.
He told his dad not to come to his wedding, and that he wishes he was dead. Maybe the guy deserved it, maybe not. Probably not, in fact.
His fiance is petrified because she thinks he's... Read More
My sixteen years old sister is currently dating an alcoholic. Last night she and dad had to pick him up from outside the city graveyard and let him sleep it off on a mattrass by the bathroom. It eats your heart out to see the ones you love suffer under addictions.
As a matter of fact my absence has not been volountary, but a result of me staying at my grandparent's place with the rest of my mom's side's family over the holidays. Be as it is that I am already known for my somewhat alternative style, but naked tattooed girls did for some reason not seem apropriate, not even for me.
But I am touched by your concern.
Congratulations on the new screen by the way. You know what they say. In the end, size is what really matters.
Got a lot of good feedback on this one, so I might make more of an effort to write something up when I feel like there's something to say. We'll see. When there's no money involved, I tend to be easily distracted.
Originally I only mentioned this to Porphyria because she probably knows the author, but I... Read More
Congratulations on the article. It is worth it's new home.
One should never underestimate the power of the Light At The End Of The Tunnel. I should, in theory, be rather okay with my job since I have never been in a place with such a great atmosphere among the colleagues. On the other hand that is the only reason why I have stayed as long as I have. I have always been afraid to wake up thirty years old and realize I have been working at the same place, just out of convenience.
I have this badass canker sore on the roof of my mouth near my back left molar. My tongue brushes against it when I talk or swallow. It's been there for days and isn't letting up. Getting tired of it. Real tired. Bitches don't know bout my tired.
Your introduction made me chuckle. Do Arizona have an accent, and do you have it?
Modern history is always interesting. Whether the 1770's counts as modern history, though, is probably a bit difficult to determine. I guess it is too early to tell.
As for me I have completely fallen for a series of radio documentaries about the Swedish current history, recounting its most famous events from the 1940's and forward. They must have made about thirty or forty by now, and it is fascinating how names, places and scandals you have previously only heard mentioned out of context, suddenly comes alive and literally spins a web all over the 80's and 90's, painting a whole new picture of the country I was born in.
I would most likely not be able to differ a New York accent from a Washington accent if my life depended on it, which should be rather embarrassing considering the size of the country. Sweden is barely the size of California and it is almost impossible for the northeners to understand the pure-blooded Malmoe citizens. I lost most of my accent a couple after surgery a couple of years ago, but according to the danes at the desk I do have some odd dialect making me the only one on the desk they can't understand. I don't know what they're talking about. Stupid danes.
History is fascinating, but sometimes I think you have to discover it yourself. Nothing is interesting unless you make it interesting, and most people simply are not able to do that.
I would send you a couple of those documentaries, but I doubt you'd have much joy out of them.
Thank you. I don't expect much else than an "I hope it works out" because that is really all one can say. People have been giving me good advice, and most of it have been facts I have already gone over again and again. What I need now is mainly somebody who can sit quietly with me, listen to all my whining and give me a pat on the back until I get it all out of my system.
That is the good thing about online friends, and blogs. They can't interrupt you, change the subject or slap you for being boring. They have no choice but to listen. Sometimes that is all you need.
Had a job interview today. Seemed to go pretty well. It's the same place where my best friend is working, so his recommendation might give me a bit of an advantage. If I get it, it'll be more money than where I work now. Given a little time, a lot more. It's commission based, but not on sales. I don't have to do any hunting.... Read More
I probably would.... But not out of bravery though. More out of a complete lack of consideration of the consequences. There is a fine, fine line between courage and foolishness, and in many places they intertwine.
This is why I like Roger Ebert. He finally took the time to review Expelled, which is an anti-Evolution, pro-Intelligent Design movie hosted by Ben Stein, and man does he ever review the hell out of it:
I've been accused of refusing to review Ben Stein's documentary "Expelled," a defense of Creationism, because of my belief in the theory of evolution. Here is... Read More
While I do not prescribe to any organized religion, I've often wondered why ID and Evolution have to be mutually exclusive. To that end, I found this excerpt to be brilliant.
This creator could have been anything of intelligence, including aliens. Intelligent Design is a scientific movement, not a religious one, a fact stated more than once in interviews in this film. Unfortunately, those statements are constantly ignored as 'Expelled' continually brings up the question of God's existence and thereby equates the movement with a belief in God.
Though Ebert does examine technical merits of the film, both good and bad, a bulk of his review seems to be about the message of the film, the opinions spoken to in the film. It reads more like a debate than a film review., but enjoyable and interesting nonetheless.
Oh, and Twilight, yeah, you've got to toss out anything and everything you know about vampires. It's basically a fantasy love story. I asked my wife about the details of vampires as outlined by Stephanie Meyer (I haven't read the books), and found it to be completely without any kind of thoughtful insight.
How the hell am I getting summoned for Jury Duty AGAIN? This is the third time and I'm 26 years old. After being summoned, you're supposed to be immune for a set number of years. Every single time I've been summoned I only just became eligible again. It's like my name is first on the list or something. I will have officially, after this summons,... Read More
I had to get the word "evocatively" translated. So much for that intelligence hypothesis.
What was actually more impressive was how they served my Toblerone - Kaluha, Bailey's, Frangelico and cream, with a touch of honey - in a Pina Colada glass.
As for the jury duty - I guess they must like you.
(Being foreigner and only having seen trials on tv I always thought jury duty sounded like a pretty cool thing to do. At least it seemed so on Law&Order.)
I just got done watching Tropic Thunder, finally. Overrated, but good. Still worth seeing. Just not the "funniest thing ever!" that I was led to believe it was.
I have no problem at all continuing my dislike of Tom Cruise. I don't really know what it is about this part that turned so many people around.
Well, in the words of Deep Blue Something, "that's one thing we've got".
Then again, I would probably have been one of those Carrie Bradshaw women unless I hadn't had too broad feet for wear high heels. Sad, but true. Instead I turned to collecting and obsessing over odd things that nobody else likes. Like crossstitches. Or pretty stones. Or beautiful books.
Well put, and true as it is. He did tell me some story once about him having "been hurt once" and how he ever since "had walls" and "didn't open up to people". I can respect that to some extent, but I also believe that there is a limit and that at some point you have to stand up and decide how you want to become, what kind of person you want to be. Because that is what you have to do - decide for yourself. You are only as exposed as you choose to be.
Good thing is that I only have nineteen days left now, and then one more month before it is all over.
there's nothing hopeful or happy to say about it.
I hope your friends gets out of it alright.
