my brother (er, really his wife) had another baby today, making me an uncle for the second time.
they already have one little girl, now they have a new baby boy.
I'm excited to visit them on Monday.

Enough misery. Funny how the sun comes out the day after all of the little campers go home. I'm happy to enjoy summer for real now, but it makes me just a little bit sad to think that all the kiddies were not able to enjoy it too on their last week up here.

So, time to stop working for a couple of weeks and...

Since June 22nd, we have had rain on more days than we have had sunshine. Normally (being a fan of flooded rivers) I would enjoy it. But, since the weather is making the kids miserable, thus making my job more difficult, I'm a bit bummed. AND, I don't have time to enjoy the flooded rivers for another week.

Sorry to hear, I do love to splash in a good puddle.

ok. I'm exhausted and have been experiencing the urge to just hang out and paint sentimental and cheesy watercolors lately. I have not had the time to do the painting myself, so the urge just grows. I am looking forward to mid-August and (hopefully) the time to do some non-intellectual work after doing absolutly nothing for a few days. I don't want summer to end,...

just back from Monhegan, and have a few photos of the kid's art segment.

A picture of someone making a drawing of an artist's house that was bought from another artist. This camper did a drawing of Jaime Wyeth's house (formerly Rockwell Kent's)

the shipwreck at Lobster Cove was a great place to hold the kids' interest. Some of them drew the actual wreck,...

Hooray! I get to teach a couple of days of watercolor on Monhegan Island, Maine.
http://www.monhegan.com/070708.html

For those who don't know the place, it's a tiny fishing/lobstering island 12 miles off the coast, with fewer than 70 full-time residents. During the summer, the populations swells to a few hundred, with hundreds more taking weekend and day trips. It has turned into somewhat of an artists'...

I am having fun, but working waaaaay too hard lately.
Not to complain (doesn't that phrase ALWAYS mean that a complaint is about to occur), but I get frustrated by my need to explore as many aptitudes and diversions as possible. I want it all, and I want it now!

my friend is a surf board shaper who has a store in Montreal, the first store to do custom boards for locals on the river and among the first people out on the river to be surfing the huge waves.

Here is a link to an article in which he brags about Christine getting out to one of the most dynamic waves in Montreal on...

I completely agree but find it interesting what feminist artists have done with the ideas found in abstract expressionism. Although, I think the argument that De Kooning's women were misogynist is crap.

I'll message you the details about the show, it's July 18th though, so mark it on your calender! smile

FUUUUUUCK it's hot out!
I felt bad for everyone in my friend's wedding party. Outdoor wedding at 4pm on Saturday. Sun beating down. The photos are going to be awesome, but I was about to pass out in just a dress shirt. I couldn't imagine what the groomsmen were going through in full tux, and the women in those layers of dresses....
At least there...

Camp? I want to be at camp. Seriously, can we trade lives for a week of two? I'm sure no one will notice, except for that whole boobs thing.

Good luck with the paper work, I personally hate dealing with it but I guess it's necessary. You should try and make it to the show I'm putting together on July 18th if you get a chance (Harpoon is sponsoring us so there will be lots of art, music and booze.

Also I'm TAing a painting class next year! I'm so excited, I just found out. Bring it on kids.

That is amazing!

I wish I had my own wino ground hog. We would go to parties or the grocery store and everywhere we would have paper bags and good times....together...my wino ground hog and I.

Actually I think they are sold by Mattel.
