Was never a big fan out of the gate, but Jay-Z has really dug trenches around my music tastes over the past few years.
If you have not heard his "American Gangster" album I would suggest you drop what you're doing and find a way to pleasure your ears with what he has done.
If you're not a hip-hop fan all the better. If you're an artist you should appreciate his lyrical flow and delivery with a message that runs through the duration of the album, mocking modern "rap" and the shallow bit of crap most have become.
He touches on influences and the fact that Scarface the movie had more of an impact (negative or positive, however you deem to interpret his life) than Scarface the rapper...and this is not a shot at the rapper, but at the America and media that want to censor art and especially the hip hop culture.
Pretty mindblowing.
