Twilight

We met in the garden
not day nor night
but when the heavens
declared, Twilight.
You leaned to kiss me
but I turned away,
for your love would flee
with the coming day;
you knew my heart
that much was plain,
for there, we parted
in an amethyst rain.
Those statues
of the garden cried,
to witness
both our hearts denied;
you who rule the dark of night,
and I a maiden of the light.
