on a whim we went to see Of Montreal at the Avalon last night. the most unexpected fun i've had in a loooong while. hung out at the upstairs afterparty for a while where the dj's made me miss spencer sweeney and his old saturday night party at the hole those fall nights of 2003.

i can't remember where i picked up this quote but it's stellar:
"if you don't change directions, you'll end up where you're going!"

Was able to watch the second half of Bra v Cro at Cafe Brasil in Culver City during lunch. It was packed, as was this place one block down the street, Supermercado Brazil has also set up a viewing area to watch the game with better sightlines. The best part is that drivers honk in support of the selacao during the game... this should be...

swanky accommodations! i am attending NYE festivities with a friend. she has a bunch of friends going too, so it will be fun to hang with a group of new people. i keep forgetting how i only know a handful---all of them either from texas or work-related. new blood is nice.
last time i was in vegas i stayed on the "old strip" and rocked a fear and loathing revival trip. that was also the last time i saw flaming lips....tripping out to the balloons flying in the air and breeze in the desert.

I just had some oxtail stew at Versailles tonight, myself.
Yeah, NYE at the hotel is going to be silly busy. It was pure craziness last year.
Not sure what my nights will be like this coming week, aside from working Sunday; I'll let you know.

anniversary yesterday... 9 years of wedded bliss give or take a few rocky months at year 5. celebrated at lucques, where i had the lamb and mrs 7sins had the chicken. so did hamish bowles who was holding court (yes, with all the regality the phrase implies) at the next table -- quite the floorshow. desserts weren't that great but it really didn't diminish...

I work at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica; it's good food and we've got a good crew, but it's getting to be time for me to move on. Hard part is leaving the corporate / union benefits that I've got, for an independent restaurant that will pay less and leave me with no insurance.
I've only been in LA for about 9 months or so, and because I work so much I haven't had a lot of time to do much restaurant exploring, so I don't really know all the great places in town.
I can give you a couple tips, though: I love Angelini Osteria, on Beverly, and Providence on Melrose. Those are both pretty pricey upscale places, but they do very very good food.

if you're in that area, you should swing by my regular bar, Saints & Sinners, right by cafe brasil on venice. cool place!
I don't follow the footy, but i will sort of follow the progress of it all, most likely.

dear fellow internerds...
first of all, thanks for the birthday wishes. totally unexpected and very much appreciated.
secondly, i had the SG-est moment walking through LAX last month when i ran into Girlie and NBK66 on their way back to the BK. if/when you make your way out west, the first round's on mrs 7sins and me.
new neighborhood is a perfect segue for us....

Don't you know you're not allowed to walk anywhere in LA? sheesh... Have a great time at the Coachella Music Festival... I'll be out in the desert for a confernence next week - why couldn't they schedule it when there was some good music in town??

Wow, it took him 23 years to build TSI and only a short 10 for it to start deteriorating. Kinda sad.
we've been in LA for 10 days now ... still feeling a bit out of place, but that probably won't go away until we have some semblance of a routine. running along the beach doesn't suck, and i just might be able to get back in shape for the la marathon. i do miss my bike tho.

no, sadly I'm from suburbia USA. My husbands father married an Ecuadorian woman - they were saving for about 5 years to bring her girls to America - who knew it was so expensive to legally enter the US...

yeah it was a great time. i had fun molesting hot girls, and getting molested right back
for the first time in a month, i will be in one town for 7 days straight. this has been too much: la to amsterdam to boston to la to la to chicago to boston to la, with a return to nyc in between every leg. it's been productive, it's been fun, but it's been brutal.
but in 7 days, the biggest trip begins: we...

yeah that article was pretty right on. i think in general it is just a confusing time to date or meet anyone. with popular culture producing more and more bullshit (he's just not that into you, for example) and the apparent laziness of most boys....yeah. girls like me just stay home. i don't want to do online dating, (been there, done that) don't want to meet anyone in a bar (been there and done that too) so i give up. what's a smart foxy girl to do?
nothing. i do nothing.
nothing. i do nothing.

so after you get settled in to LA, are you going to look around for races? Pretty huge tri scene out that way.
just got back from a redonkulous dinner at Trotters in Chicago. Highlights: squab on an oxtail reduction/ragu, lamb roast with lamb sweetbreads and smoked lamb tongue in a collard green extraction, and for dessert(s) chocolate tart and an apple beignet thingamajig.
what was equally amazing was the vegetable tasting menu, which one of our party had.

The initial test run in LA went well, altough a lot of wrinkles came up in the plans. Venice Beach/Santa Monica might not be the slam dunk I had expected, so we're going to look at other neighborhoods now.
Driving to the hotel on Weds, I saw that The Rapture were playing The Troubadour. Sold out? No problem, thanks to Craiglist LA. Got to hang...

not the best of picture of me in the profile but it does capture the feeling after having run the nyc marathon this sunday. it wasn't my fastest time -- 4:43, or almost 20% slower than last year. that wasn't what this race was about... i took my time crossing the bridges, soaking in the skyline from various vantages. i scanned the crowds along the...
