Road to the Nationals Part 3, really this time, I checked.
Two updates in two days? I know right, I'm effing on fire at the moment. Actually, this is just a little one, since even the simplest models in the force take an evening of work. Got the test model for the Exodite Guardians [termagants] finished, I know it's basically just a wood elf with a splinter rifle, but it was the simplest of the ones I've got built already. Besides, I've got to get thirty or so of these little fuckers finished before the tournament [I want enough spares so that I won't run out when the Tervigon starts spamming them out.]
I wanted to make the colours more muted and earthy, and try to keep away from the ridged armour and gemstones on the warriors, whilst still having them look like they fit with the force. Opinions?
In other news, been doing a little bit of list fettling, I've not had a chance to play a game with the force yet, since I'm a hundred miles [literally] away from my club, and my local GW store won't let me get away with proxies, even for the purposes of tournament-list honing. But I have seen a couple of games from other, less tactically blessed players than myself, and there are some things that really shine and some I was a bit wrong about: Harpies and Lictors, are sadly, a bit rubbish, this annoyed me, as I was looking forward to getting another dragon to play with, my dark elf one is still probably my favourite model, [oh gosh I love my Dreadlord, people always get nervy when you plonk a black dragon down on the table, and this only gets worse when he wades cheerefully through cannon fire and procides to eff about in the enemy lines picking off weak units] but sadly, it was not to be. Things that are amazingly good though, are Hive Guard and Ymgarl 'Stealers. The former allows me to have some fun kitbashing cold one mounted heavy weapon platforms, and to that end, I am procuring a pair of the old thick-set ones, so more lizards, and more variety of lizards. The latter took a bit of thought, it's already a bit of a push having strength and toughness four eldar as genestealers, and the Ymgarl varients are significantly harder. In the end I decided to seperate the pair of warriors i had for use as a lictor as two, and the rest will be made up of suitably epic eldar fighters [converted jain zarr, drazhar, and a converted wych succubus leading a modified warmaster dragon are the current prospects]
So the current list stands at
-Hive Tyrant; standard weapons, Armoured shell and Hive Commander, [opinions on the psychic powers, I was thinking leech essence and paroxysm, 'mostly 'cause paroxysm is a fun word]
-Alpha Warrior: Boneswords, talons
-Two Zoanthropes
-Two Hive Guard
-Five Ymgarl Genestealers
-Three Warriors, same kit as the alpha
-Two units of Ten Genestealers [basic]
-Ten Termagants [basic]
-Tervigon: Crushing claws, Toxic miasma [got ideas on how to represent this, but more would be nice] and Catalyst.
[The tervigon and stealers will be outflanking, thanks to the tyrant's abilities]
-Carnifex: Scything talons and a Devourer
All in fifteen hundred points.
I've also found my first test venue for the exos as well, a friend of mine invited me to a intraclub tournament up in cardiff in two weeks time. It'll be a bit daunting, I've been out of the 40k tournament scene in a while, when I played seriously last it was with a fourth ed mech eldar force that never got closer than meltagun range on the last turn. This time I'm taking an untested and unpracticed close combat army [not done close combat since my third ed rhino rush chaos] into a tournament with a stack of perfect strangers, and my best friend's effing mech chaos army. The last time I faced that it beat the ever loving shit out of my poor innocent guard, I struggled to drag a draw out of it. I have some vague tactical theories, but nothing solid, and nothing tested against people.
So yeah, that was a lot longer than I thought it would be, and now it's gone four in the morning.
-I might be drunk, but at least I'm standing up.

I'm desperately trying to put together and paint a 2000point Ultramarine army for a weekend tournament with 4 friends in April!
Thanks for the compliments.
