Have you ever felt like you didn't belong? I found this little snippet on the story, "The Ugly Duckling."
"The children declare that he is the most beautiful swan of them all, yet he is not proud, for a good heart is never proud. Because of all that he suffered he now appreciates his happiness so much more."
"Andersen was asked about whether he would write his autobiography. He claimed that it had already been written - "The Ugly Duckling."
I'm going to track down the original story.
Edit: I guess the true meaning of this story is that if you are good looking, everything will work out in the end. I don't think it sends the right message.

well, at least I hope that's the message or I'll have to chock the story up to another childhood disappointment (first the Runaway Pancake gets eaten in the end, then superficial propaganda hiding in duck stories: where will it end>??!!!)
