well, i just had my first coffee in more than a day and i'm pumped. about a lot of things.

NEW ORLEANS
IMPORTANT: does anyone know if there is a better place to donate money to the new orleans effort than the red cross?

ALTERNATIVE FUELS
my friend just sent me this:

http://nytimes.com/2005/09/10/business/10alternative.html

it's good to see people thinking/talking about alternative fuels again. unfortunately, i'm afraid gas costs are going to have to stay high or rise for this interest to continue. of course it's always frustrating to see how few people are changing their habits or doing something about it.

for my part, i started running my auto on 100% biodiesel, manufactured from chicken fat here in GA. most diesel cars can run on it without any modifications. you can take it a step further by adding a S/WVO (standard/waste veg oil) conversion to your car for a bit of money. then you can run your diesel engine on waste veg oil from a heated external tank. of course that stuff is free from many restaurants. how cool is that?

FUTURE TRAVELS: INDONESIA
about two weeks to go until i head across the ocean to iindonesia. my work plans beforehand have not worked out like i was hoping, and depending on a few factors i may try to leave early. speaking of, does anyone know of any organizations still doing good work for tsunami relief? i'm not going to be on the island hardest hit, but i would like to make a much past-due donation.

what else? my mind is racing. so many projects outside of work to complete during these free days. if you know of any gigs that need a software usability engineer or any general Web development, you let me know.

FEEDBACK: RELOCATION
i'd love to hear your feedback on something that's been occupying my mind lately: the issue of moving. although these aren't the only two options, i want to hear your thoughts on NYC vs. san francisco. yes, very different and very much on opposite sides of the states. i'm getting more serious about considering SF as a real option. ideally i'd like to make a move overseas (e.g. Japan), but i'm not sure what opportunites will be available. There are some interesting career opps in SF and likely some in NYC as well.

so, on that note, thoughts?

how's the public transport in SF? i know very little about BART.

what are/were your biggest day-to-day frustrations living in these areas? what do you love/hate most?

whew. hello coffee. i think that'll be it for now!
