I'ts been a hectic week but it's almost done. Due to the bad weather recently some things have moved fast (like death certificates) and the lawyer friend (see previous post) got everything with the judge done right away.
We got everything finalised on the Saturday. The bank manager was very nice (she was at the funeral) and so the fund is setteled, the estate is setteled.
We gave his gf the ring and she cried. She's in pretty bad shape right now so she's staying with her mom (who's in pretty bad shape as well) but they'll heal.
The kid was born (get this) 1 hour after the car crash and my friends death. He was on the way to the hospital to propose (and maybe get married) before the child was born. She only learnt of the his death an hour after the kid was born.
So it's been pretty dramatic but the kid is safe and there's no complications. In case of there being no benefactor upon entrance to the University/College/Higher Education (we have no doubt that it'll be University of Waterloo) the money will goto a scholarship (we figure that after interest it'll pay 500USD int 17 years).
So...that's wrapped up. As usual I had to be the pillar and I'm really gonna miss the guy. I was supposed to head down around xmas and meet him and what not so it's not gonna be the same. That's 3 best friends I've had die so I figure I'm not gonna make anymore best friends (my local best friend has a life threatening illness).
I've had internet access throughout the whole time and since I couldn't sleep I played a lot of games and that kept me going (non violent games!!!). Funeral expenses were covered and it was very nice. We had about 200 people for the reception and 400 at the funeral (he was a really really cool guy, but not well known in the area where he lived).
Thing about funerals (for me) is that I do pretty well at them. Because I have a very short mourning period (it's actually that the mourning spread out over years but it's a normal state of mind) I tend to get along well and make sure everybody has somebody to comfort them.
Anyhow...I get on the plane soon so I'm gonna pack this up. Virtually the entire plane is the group of people who came to the funeral so it's very somber. Still lots of people crying.
The gf is heading back with us because she works in Canada but she was on maternity leave (hence she was living with him) and she doesn't have plans for returning. We've got the papers ready for the baby so that it can get citizenship asap. There's some quirky laws that require the father to be alive but since he's not there's a couple lawyer friends who got it pushed through with the help of their firms. So the baby should be Canadian quite soon and that'll help cover all health care and education (I _know_ that we have the best education system).
I'll be posting my lame comments on the boards again very shortly...bring some horrific pain back to the boards and the way of life. It's been a wild week and this is one of the few times where I think I could get more than 4 hours of sleep.
