Let me start this out by saying that I don't advocate rape or any type of assault on women in any way shape or form.
But let's take a look at the "Rape Set" from I believe October 15 and I think the SG was Nana. A couple of thought come to mind: 1. This site is about expressing yourself in an alternative way, 2. There have been many sets about killing and murder and the SG is sometimes killed and is sometimes the killer. 3. There are a bunch of sets that deal with suicide, 4. I strongly believe in freedom of speech.
Let's look at these individually. (If you don't read anything else, read #4)
1. Expressing yourself in an alternative way. I understand that a lot of you saying this site is about empowering alternative women. You are absolutely right about that and this site does it to it's fullest ability, until now. So now what this action says is that you can only empower yourself as much as the group wants you to. This is an alternative fantasy. Just becasue it is not your fantasy does not mean it is not somebody elses on the site and that that was not their favorite set that was just taken down in days. Or that that SG wasn't helping another member that thought like them through a hard time and now is gone. That fantasy is not necessarily about being raped but about being dominated, just letting go and letting someone else be in control.
2. How many sets do we have on the site that have an SG or someone else being killed in the set and lots of blood in the pictures. Does that mean that we advocate murder, no. What it means is that that is someones idea of art, or it is there fantasy and by acting out in the pictures it controls their urge to kill, maybe. Or maybe they just thought it would make a great set here on the site. Either way we never had a problem with one of those sets and those sets were never taken down and the corresponding SG's were never archived because of it.
3. There are sets that deal with suicide, it is even in our name. Also if I am not mistaken there was also an SG that was very popular that did commit suicide. We have never taken down of those sets or archived any of those SG's and I don't think any of my friends advocate suicide.
4. Lastly is freedom of speech. In the movie "The American President" Michael Douglass says something that all of you that wanted this set removed should take to heart and think long and hard about. He say "Freedom of speech is not protecting your right to say what you want but protecting the right of the person who says what you oppose. Now when you can do that then you are truely protecting the right to freedom of speech." Some of you new people don't remember when Alberto Gonzalez took over and we lost a whole bunch of pictures, some of which were in my favorites, because of his pornography campaign. None of the pictures were especially bad but the home office decided not to take the chance and took down some individual pictures and even some entire sets. They did not archive the SG's but those sets and pictures were not available for all to view any more. What you members have done by complaining about the set puts you in the same boat as Alberto Gonzalez. Bet you never thought anyone would say that to you did you? I bet you never thought that you would be the cause for sensorship, right? Guess what you just took away someones freedom of speech and freedome to express themselves. You ended up causing other members to lose a friend on this site. The only type of sensorship I believe in is self sensorship. If you don't like it don't look at it. If you don't like what someone else says don't listen. But make sure that you leave it out there for others to take in and make their own oppinion on.
I know that a lot of people will never get this far in this blog because it is long and dry but for those of you that do I hope that it made you think. As long as it is legal and I am sure there is a legal office or a bunch of private lawyers that view things to make sure what goes up on the set will not get anyone in trouble, then it should stay here until this site goes away, and hopefully that will never happen.
