I did not watch the game anywhere. I was at my parents' house and they don't get the channel it was on. So we watched the Raiders game instead.

I really used to hate football, and to some extent professional sport still annoy me a lot. But they are entertaining at times and football is fairly easy to understand; it's also exciting. With baseball you...

Tonight, nothing as well. Tomorrow, I really don't know. Sunday, I'm kindasorta considering the SG laydeez thing, but it's only at the kindasorta point.
cosi:
Hi! I'm coming up again on Wednesday night and staying through Sunday! I shall see you?

Where should I watch the Steelers game on Sunday? The house I'm at now has cable so I could watch it here I guess. Or I could go to a bar.

I don't really follow sports too carefully but sometimes football games are the best.

Two years ago there is no way I would have said something like that by the way.

Adam and I got sushi tonight and one of the rolls had tempura bacon. It was delicious. But also kind of like a deep fried Twinkie in concept. Deep fried Twinkies are really gloriously amazing for two bites and then you're like... ugh I am eating a deep fried Twinkie.

Apparently I am into inappropriate deep fried foods.

I read Judy Blume's Forever for the...

The Wonder Years was a brilliant television show, which got me through a lot of my own early years.

anonymouse:
I was a junior in high school the year that Freaks and Geeks aired on TV for one perfect season. I loved that show so much, but all the boys I talked to about it that year said they didn't like it and winced, if memory serves. I distinctly recall observing winces.

These are literally the only books I could think of that are a relatively accurate representation of awkward male adolescence.

Dentists are fucking AWESOME.

The first dentist gave me a scrip for Valium because I said I was a little nervous about my root canal.

The second dentist, who actually did the root canal, gave me a scrip for TWENTY Vicodins just in case it hurts tomorrow. Also, he said I was a great patient, because I was totally calm and happy throughout the unexpectedly...

drugs are good! I had a biopsy, went home and started bleeding like crazy and took a Xanax - by the time I arrived back at the doctors office with internal bleed I was totally screaming my head off but when they relieved the pressure I just laughed my head off and they were so glad I was in good spirits.

well of course.

I am re-reading Tender Is The Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald. On the one hand it is an excellent thing to do because gaaahhhd dayum that man could write. It makes me want to write, create, pour myself into the world to read his writing. I've been trying to read more modern fiction, more new writers, because that's what we have to do- support each...

gigondas:
My favorite bit of "Tender..." is at the beginning.

"A mile from the sea, where pines give way to dusty poplars, is an isolated railroad stop, whence one June morning in 1925 a victoria brought a woman and her daughter down to Gausse's Hotel. The mother's face was of a fading prettiness that would soon be patted with broken veins; her expression was both tranquil and aware in a pleasant way. However, one's eye moved on quickly to her daughter, who had magic in her pink palms and her cheeks lit to a lovely flame, like the thrilling flush of children after their cold baths in the evening. Her fine forehead sloped gently up to where her hair, bordering it like an armorial shield, burst into lovelocks and waves and curlicues of ash blonde and gold. Her eyes were bright, big, clear, wet, and shining, the color of her cheeks was real, breaking close to the surface from the strong young pump of her heart. Her body hovered delicately on the last edge of childhood-she was almost eighteen, nearly complete, but the dew was still on her.

As sea and sky appeared below them in a thin, hot line the mother said:

"Something tells me we're not going to like this place."

"I want to go home anyhow," the girl answered."

It really sucks to discover your own limitations, I agree. Although I think it's much better to know them than to be blissfully unaware of them (like so many seem to be)!

It also doesn't mean you won't be (aren't) an inspiration in your own way. I happen to think you're pretty awesome!

Okay, that's over with.

I have had a relaxing weekend so far. Friday I went to bed at like 9:45. Saturday I ran some errands and did some reorganizing. Then my friend came over and we watched Escape From New York and drank vodka with blood orange soda. I'm not normally a big vodka...

Fuck yeah, dude, Fakeberry! It's weird that it took like, 100 years for someone to realize that yogurt-flavored frozen yogurt would be an excellent idea.

I love The Blow. Normally, I'm all about east coast bands, but The Blow makes some straight up baby makin' music that no one can resist.

OK. We can't do it on the 24th. Other than that, we're open. Also, That One:

dude my hair is STICK STRAIGHT. i have been trying to get it to curl for years, this is how i finally got it to stay:

blow dry with diffuser if possible, if not then i make sure my hair is completely dry, preferably 2-3 days unwashed. i use a 3/4" or smaller curling iron to curl tiny sections, starting at the bottom and working up in layers, spraying with bedhead hairspray in between. usually i can sleep on it and wear it like that for a few days if i use enough hair spray and touch it up and curl the top layer again in the morning.

oh and tease the top layer a LOT. it is pretty damaging, but as long as you use something protective on the ends and a damage controlling shampoo/conditioner combo, it isn't too bad.

good luck, it took me forever to figure out that combo but now i can do it like that in like... 15 minutes, woo woo!

Oh, well. I'm guessing she's not in my area that I've seen thus far, because I feel like I'd probably remember her, based on your description.

And if she has a Master's in anything, she's very likely nowhere near where I'm working, sadly enough. But maybe you can introduce me and I can, like, network and shit.

Paul Newman is dead and that makes me sad. My mom absolutely loved him and introduced me to his films at a young age. Plus his salad dressing. I should call her to commiserate.

In less sad news, three or more items:

1. Today for breakfast I had fried pickles. Oh god, how I love fried pickles. I should probably learn to make them because...
