I know it's hard to not listen to anyone else's opinions about yourself, but people see other people in different ways. Everyone has their own standards they hold other people to. It's imposible to live up to everyone's expectations. Ben Folds has a great lyric in one of his songs that says "Don't try to see yourself the way that others do... it's no use." The important thing is to stay true to who you want to be, and say to hell with anyone else's ideas for you. You'll be a lot happier that way.
