As far as Hornby, I read About a Boy and loved the piss out of it. The movie was sub-par, now I am trying to get through
How to be Good, I am about half way, and just can't seem to really dig it enough to want to finish. But I did pick up a Dave Eggers/Hornby featured Short Story book. THere is a story called Nipple Jesus in it. You would dig it. Can't remember the name of it but I will check at home.

Another book I dug similiar to Hornby was Namedroppers by Emma Forrester. Good shits.

I hope he comes out with another on edge book too, I love his music references, and his character personas are right on.

-The Acid House - Irvine Welsh... short stories from the guy who wrote Trainspotting (my fave- The Granton Star Cause).
-Shout at the Devil - Wilbur Smith... swashbuckling, drunken ivory poacher and his crew versus villainous German Kaiser in the jungles of WWI Africa.
-The Big Sleep - Raymond Chandler... the first book by the high priest of noirish detective fiction (and the source for my username).

NON-FICTION:
-Writing on Drugs - Sadie Plant... chronicle of the effect of various drugs on the writers that used them, and the literature (and history) that resulted. Fucking *great* book.
-Among the Thugs - Bill Buford... a firsthand account of an American journalist who traveled around Europe with the most dangerous group of soccer hooligans in all of England. Worth it for the cover picture alone.
-The Gift of Fear - Gavin De Becker... understanding what the biological purpose of fear is, and how you can use it to your advantage.

COMICS:
-The Invisibles - Grant Morrison... sex, drugs, and rock&roll: the comic book.
-V For Vendetta - Alan Moore... lone anarchist terrorist versus a fascist totalitarian England in an alternate future.
-Preacher - Garth Ennis... a tough-as-shit Texan, his trigger happy girlfriend, and his drunk Irish vampire best friend look for a fugitive God on the run in America.
