The only thing I can add to what's already been said is that it's a good idea to put your backups on several different media - external hard drive, USB flash drive, CD/DVD, etc. and keep at least one of them in a different geographical location than the others.

I still haven't gotten around to getting one. Incredibly, the internet doesn't seem to be demanding my video presence. Oubliette vids, on the other hand, will be a greatly sought after commodity.
