Thank you so much for the kind words and advice. It definitely eased my mind a little bit. Oh I am definitely not gonna pre-spend the money.

I've got an Etrade account I run a fair bit of my investing through. I'm a long-term buy-and-hold type using index funds so rapid trades and exotic investments are things I care about.

Mojomonster brings up a good point though, if Etrade goes through bankruptcy it will be a pain. Of the other discount brokers, I hear the most good things about Ameritrade. Assuming you're doing buy-and-hold of broad indexes, all the discount brokers are similar. Ameritrade's good capitalization may move it to the top of the pile.

I've liked and used sharebulder. But I haven't used it as a retirement account.

Oh my dear god, I knew a guy (whom I met at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport....don't ask) who worked for them. He made a big Myspace, never explaining why he left, but I am fairly certain it was a drug issue.

I think Twelve is right about traditional stances on moral issues, but I'd be interested to know if the poll being an exit poll distorted the response over a poll in, say, the mall. Are people who get out there an vote inherently more opinionated (conservative or extremist) than people who choose not to vote?
I'm interested by the last stat-- "other races" were actually in favour of gay marriage-- I'd like to know if there's a social/cultural reason for that thinking or if it's simply that that ethnic group prioritises things differently...

I get shit because I have more of a wiccan belief so I get the whole "ooo dont turn me into a frog" when it has NOTHING to do with that at all.

I used to say that it can't be much of a religion if they have to sell it on the street like a hooker. Unsually the shock value would cause them to quickly run away.

Or if I was at the door, I would call out - "Honey - dinner just arrived"- which usually elicited a quick turn and run away as well.

But I'm not that mean anymore. I finally realized that they mean well - and there's no point in being gratuituosly mean. I finally learned to be tolerant of other's beliefs, and hope that they will be tolerant of mine. But there's no point in actually engaging in conversation over it.

I was raised Catholic. I have other far reaching beliefs - but they are not really in conflict. I feel that if you are to have a relationship with God (in whatever form it may take) - it's a personal relationship and doesn't require the intervention of anyone else to practice or not practice it.....

Now when they say "Jesus Loves You", I simply respond AMEN, Sister(or Brother) and just keep on walking.

Hmm...good question. I suppose I always end up dating victims, brings out the rescuer in me.

My dating always seemed to follow some sort of subconcious stereotype. At the beginning, everything would seem fine, then the real person would poke their ugly head out and I would get fucked over and usually cheated on. My friends seem to think I gravitate toward people who need support or have some need to be fixed in whatever way, and love to tell me so when things go south.

Puppies
