What you do is call up customer service. Explain the situation as clearly as possible; how you didn't open the actual inks, only took it out of the box. You were only checking to see if the ink was actually there, etc. etc. Use a tone that hints of pleading without actually begging for anything. 3 out of 4 times they'll take the bait, give you an RM number, and give the OK for you to return it.

You should also post this on the Dog's Group, The Animal Lover's Group, and the Vets and Vet Hopeful Group. Don't give up simply because you don't have 6 grand on-the-spot to give to a Vet who has the power to save your dog. Try the above resources because when it comes to a pet you love with all your heart, you are willing to do ANYTHING to save his or her life.
As far as the fund you set up, unless you're able to syndicate that to a variety of sources; even setting up some sort of press release to attract more readers, it'll sit there dead as a door nail. Use that as your last resort because there are faster ways to obtain the surgery costs. I have faith you can do it and save your dog from being put to sleep.
