Shot a new set this morning. It's pretty good, I think, and very sexy.

I love the summertime.
I love sweating and being all glisteny; I love living in soft cotton dresses with no scanties and keeping my feet in sandals; I love the golden brown that blooms on my skin no matter how much sunscreen I apply; I love bikinis; I love gin...

Dear Flux,

I just picked up the Necronomicon of the Mad Arab Abdul Alhazred today, but I'm having trouble understanding it. I was wondering if you might have any insight to share about the text.

Sincerely,

Frank.

PS - Ia Ia!

Well at least you'll be naked for most of it. Think cool thoughts.

If you can't see God in all, you can't see God at all.

That was the meditation for my yoga class last night, and it was a doozy. It takes a particular humility to see that the divine spark (whatever you perceive it to be) is as present in the tarantula hawk (a creature I find deeply unsettling) and Pinochet as in kittens and Tom...

It better not be the Ernst Hackel octopus!!! That's mine!
grasshopperist:
I had a thought a couple weeks ago that I'd like to share with you because you seem to have a similar one - the Pinochet reference hit home particularly with me seeing as I live in a house once shared by Ben Linder.

I was thinking about Pat Robertson - a guy with incredible devotion and passion and drive. But otherwise a completely closed-minded motherfucker, no? But what if we harnessed his talent for good? I mean, what if he'd been a social anarchist or a passionate physicist? Or a doctor?

When I think about him that way, there are no bad people - just talented people who sprouted in the wrong place.

So I went to one of the most amazing concerts of my life last night.

I mean, I already liked The Boy Least Likely To, but that show was ridiculous.

Listen if you haven't heard 'em yet.
HERE

I was young and I was stupid I had just turned seventeen,
I took my hits on a dumb road trip to Nashville Tennessee,
I packed...

Bradbury once advised me that a writer should avoid local news like the plague; I haven't watched since.

Plus, he's pushing 90 and never had a driver's license. "Why bother?" The man rules.
nunquam:
I saw Mr. Bradbury speak in L.A. a few years ago. It was a fabulous speech - very inspiring, everyone was on their feet afterward. The occasion was the hardcover re-issue of Fahrenheit 451.

Afterward, he was signing the book (you had to buy it there). It was the first time for me to meet the man whose books I loved and had been reading since I was 12. I was thrilled.

When it was my turn at the table, I complimented him on the speech and thanked him for the inspiration. He looked me in the eye, pen in hand and said impatiently, "Name...name! What name do you want in here?" Haha!

So, of course I went to Taco Bell for nachos after I dropped you off. And of course I paid with my credit card at the drive thru. And of course the cashier didn't give the card back to me. And of course I didn't realize this until this morning when I tried to buy breakfast.
sloane:
Aw, does not!!

Did a lot of writing today, but not quite enough. When you love something as much as I love speculative fiction, it's very, very hard to really phrase that in terms that exist in, you know, human language.

Talked to aaronburke, DragoD, Maximillian, and Sloane (affectionately termed "the important people") about the important stuff.

I am very, very, very, very busy....
