I read your other blog and I know you are not going to be doing this trip now, but I have taken that road trip several times. I used to travel from a town called Troy in northern PA to the bay area in Cali. I have taken just about every type of road in between and I would say that if you do it in the future, that you would not take the freeways very much. There is soo much more to see in the small towns and the people you meet along the way is what makes the trip. You might spend a little more in gas, but I bet you that you will never have to pay for a single night in a hotel and hardly have to buy a meal. Just my .02 cents.
