I think in terms of depth of character one of my favourites would have to be Captain Britain. The stories and quality of the first few years of Excalibur were simply amazing. Captain Britain had a great deal of power but struggled with the burden of it, even resorting to alcoholism for a time. It is a different spin on the obligations of power.
