Pets are always the best friends you could have My cat will, when its cold, actually lay on top of me while i sleep. Bare in mind, i sleep on my side, so he's perched when he does it....according to my girlfriend it is "ridiculously cute".

You are correct though, that the regulations do not allow same-unit bondings, the new regs say officers can't marry NCO's (active duty), but no regs state it is a NO GO between military branches (active duty, NG, reserves, etc.).
