Some find that music, especially playing an instrument, helps the subconscious to process troubling memories or thoughts during times of extreme stress. Or, you might just find it comforting.
Whatever you choose to do, don't waste away. I can tell you first hand, that's not the way to go. It's not easy to stop; if it was, I wouldn't still be doing it. Take the time you need, get away if you need to, don't feed the press...but take care of yourself too. When you're ready, take back your life.
