OHMYGOD!!! amsterdam is the shiznit, there's just no 2 ways about it. First of all, besides all the obvious reasons (like getting rip-roaring stoned in a city that's like 700 years old) the squatter scene here is insanely strong and active and so fuckin international. there's definately the feeling that non-dutch squatters kinda take secondary importance...and nobody seems too crazy about americans in general, but...

First of all, hi. Secondly, I was in Amsterdam a couple of months ago and I was also really amazed by how vibrant the squatter scene was (not to mention the whole bikes over cars mentality). I saw one of my fave bands play two nights in a row--The Ex who (as you probably know given your favorite bands list) are an amazing anarcho-punk(ish) band from Amsterdam. I definitely suggest seeing them play on their home turf if you get the chance. I also hung out at some squat where people build (or modify really) all kinds of crazy looking bikes. Try to find it--the people were really nice. Glad you're having fun!
