These driving needs have led me to software development and performing arts.

I author (e.g. write narrative, draw flow diagrams) business requirements for software. My job is to answer the questions: What are the business needs of an applications customers? What does the application have to do to meet those needs? (Discover, Invent)

My audience is engineers. An engineer reads what I author, and answers the question: how can the application perform the actions that satisfy customers' business needs.

There is a fascinating and frustrating communication chasm between engineers and product developers. Engineers tend to interpret things in 0's and 1's, it either is this thing, or it is not this thing. Precise, disciplined, strict, efficient. Product developers tend to interpret things in synonyms and images. They will latch on to any metaphor that serves to create a mental picture from existing frames of reference (current or traditional) in order to describe and visualize something that doesn't yet exist. Product developers have a hard time constraining themselves to the structured, precise vocabulary engineers need to build applications. There lies the frontier. So the really hard part of the job is finding the most effective and efficient way for engineers and product developers to cooperate. (Pioneer, Invent)

Performing arts satisfy my peculier needs for instant feedback and approval. In Software development, I often don't find out if I've done my job well for weeks because someone may have had different priorities.
In entertainment, the approval is instantaneous with the end of a song, or scene, or play - it's called applause. In rehearsal for a play, approval comes in the moment that I try something new, and the other actors in the scene respond. (Discover, Invent, Entertain). I do most of my musical performing in public places. Applause is not very common, but I always make a few bucks in tips. I don't need those dollars. It just seems to be the way an audience in a public place prefers to show approval. Many of my tips come from people who don't even stop to listen. These are approvals of the highest order. I don interpret them as a reward for job well done. These folks make a more fundamental statement that, regardless of whether my performance is appealing, they believe that what I'm doing is important and valuable to the community. Mornings are definitly no good.. though for me those mornings will be gone soon cause I will be working at night.. so I guess I will be waking up in the evenings.. hmm.. that will be wierd.

Don't worry they will stop hurting pretty soon.. it takes about a week before they stop hurting and then probably about a month before you can just not be reminded of them everytime you move.. hehe.. ehh its all worth it. I might be going through it again to get the other one done. All my friends laughed at me when i would have a cup of salt water stuck to my chest.. i looked like such a dumbass.. ohh well.. i do most of the time anyway.

i agree with you about one hour photo. i was really excited about it but it was out of my mind in about an hour after i saw it. plus, that lady that played the kid's mom really bugged me. sure, moms can be hip, but she just did'nt seem like a mother to me (bad casting? trying a little too hard?) i recently saw sex and lucia. it is great, i highly recommend it. oh, and signs was damn entertaining. take care of yourself.

I didn't think the original manhunter was that bad.. I mean it didn't have Hopkins in it... but it was decent.
