it's my half-birthday! my people don't live long, we have to celebrate when we can. kiss

in other news, i gave a year's worth of homemade bread to a few family members for christmas this year, due to the constant flow of money into my doctor's pockets. actually, it's more of a trickle, and usually only after they send a final notice, but still...i'm making a...

every so often (very rarely, really, but it does happen) i have a strong desire to move to new york. today is one of those times: lit mag fair this weekend!

bazillions of lit mags for 2 bucks each. cheaper than an issue of US Weekly! c'mon, it doesn't get any better than that.

some of these are blatantly stolen, and perhaps it seems weird to begin resolutions in March, but what better time? the vernal equinox is on March 20, and i can't think of a better time to start fresh. so, from this equinox to next year's, these are my resolutions:

1) Make sure my loved ones know how much I love and appreciate them
2) Develop...

a million dollars if you can answer either of these questions for me:

why is my liver hatin' on me so much?

and why are cute boys continually playing hockey with my heart?

anyone? bueller? whatever

UPDATE:
a) as it turns out my liver hates me 'cause of all the advil i've been pumping into it. alas, advil is one of the main reasons i...

Find a doc who is willing to do a little research. When I was living in Europe, my doc said that my liver was a little fatty, mostly due to taking anti-inflammitories (like Advil) after drinking. He prescribed 150mg Milk Thistle 2x daily. There's been research on Medline about it, as the US is a bit behind Europe on natural remedies. Here, the exact same formulation is available in health food stores and is called Thisilyn.

4 months later without changing my lifestyle and it had great results.

Here's an NIH report you can direct your physician to: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11735632

eep! has it really been that long since my last blog? this year has gone insanely fast.

on a different note, i am having major trouble finding appropriate models for my ebay store. this may be because they are being paid in vintage clothing, beer, and good company. robot

did you see sharon jones + the dap-kings backing up buble on snl? so weird. it makes one thing clear: he should stay away from the blue-eyed soul thing and stick to standards.

I'm on the host committee for this event, and the SAMFund is an effin' amazing organization, they're the only ones doing the kind of work they do. I know $35 doesn't grow on trees, but you get 3 hours of open bar (and, y'know, bags. if that's yer thing.), great prizes (including Italian Villa dvd's) and lots of good times in general.

Please pass this...

I'm actually already back in CA (as of last night) for the next three weeks. Glad to get away from the cold for a bit tongue

I'm just biding my time to join the SG Chicago group since one of the requirements is to have been a member for 3 months, which I will be in January. Maybe I'll see you at one of the events!!

Med school does tend to force humanity out of people and turn them into medical machines that are hellbent upon making shit-loads of money, which is really not what the profession is about. It irks me when I see doctors who put their billing and money-making above the safety and best interests of their patients. It's just wrong. That's part of why I really like the academic setting for medical practice because everyone is salaried so they're not trying to milk you (the patient) for money. They just want you to get better because then they've done their job well. smile

and, ahem, angad19? back in yer day? i can't believe you even remember 1999.

hehe wink

when i went to the renegade craft fair, i found a woman who sells felt beards and beard stickers - it was super awesome. if you see her, tell her she has a fan in new york.

ack. it looks like i can't go to pitchfork this weekend. sigh. instead of buying outrageously marked up tickets i shall be spending my money on crown lengthening surgery. grrr. i hate teeth. i would consider just getting them all pulled and popping in some dentures if that wasn't hugely expensive too.

i'll still be in town on friday tho. my teeth can't prevent me...

Didn't get around to posting earlier, but I will not be ending up going to the concert. Something came up, but I am hoping I will still be able to get to the SGC Meet and Greet. If I am lucky, I shall see you there. If not, I will look for ya at Shonen Knife.

i had one of my favorite fridays ever (so far):

-it's gorgeous sunny skies here all afternoon. probably not as hot as most would like it, but absolutely perfect for me.

-i got a pile of cd's from the library, mostly that eccentric soul series of obscure soul labels, and they're making me ridiculously happy

-i have a dentist appointment for next week to fix...

Are you a Stax fan? I'm a big Otis/William Bell/Dramatics, etc. freak.smile

If you like Bebel you might like some of the older stuff by Elis Regina. Astrud Gilberto is lovely but her voice is kind of cool and flat, not as rich and warm as Elis. Maria Bethania's voice is almost deeper than Bebel's, and she's a living legend, but it's hard to find her old old stuff.

okay, i shall take a break from obsessing about how my health insurance is getting paid for the next month to update here.

i had a weird cancer-focused month so far. i went to boston for a retreat for couples dealing with cancer (and, in my case, aftereffects of cancer) and orlando for a hereditary cancer conference. to be honest, by the time i got...
